Welcome to the wonderful world of h2g2!!

I'm one of the Assistant Community Editors or more shortly just ACEs, and I'm here to make you feel more like home here in case you feel lost...

So, to make the beginning of your journey in h2g2 a bit easier, let me show you some places around here:

Greetings back to you! I knew if I waited long enough, I would think of a question for you! Oh mighty and all-knowing ACE- why doth my computer not remember my e-mail address and h2g2 password even though I have beseeched it to do so upon numerous occasions? In other words, what am I doing wrong?

Yikes! You're actually asking me something?? Hmm... Tell me, did you get the impression from my earlier post that you shouldn't talk to me unless you have a question? Just that if you did I should think of something else to say when greeting people... Maybe that's why I get no replies to my greetings - everyone knows everything and has nothing to ask and ignores me... *sob* So anyway, where was I?

Oh, right, your question... I have no idea what you're doing wrong unless you tell what you're doing... But it should work fine just by clicking the "remember me"-box when signing in... Are you sure it doesn't know you? If you're in Alabaster you can see whether you're signed in or not by looking at the first orange button up there - if it says "register" although you've told it to remember you, then something weird is really happening... All I can think of is that somehow your browser doesn't know how to remember passwords - you could try browsing the browsers preferences and see if you can find something that might have something to do with it... I'm afraid that's all I can say for now... Let me know if you get it sorted out and if not, let me know anyway (with the information about what you do and what browser you use and such) and I'll think of something else wise to say...

Thanks for your prompt reply! I'll play around with my browser setting like you suggested. Not right now though- too tired to think about tech stuff.

I didn't think that I couldn't write to you unless I had a question- I just didn't have anything wise and/or witty to write. I have noticed that a couple of other ACE's (*shudder* I HATE making comparisons between people) have made specifc comments pertaining to the new members' pages when they make initial contact, but I just figured that a) I haden't written anything worth mentioning (which was true- though I've tried to remedy that) or b) you're rilly, rilly busy (which makes sense because h2g2 appears to be growing quite a bit). I wasn't offended or put off at all because your message was very welcoming and friendly. If you are concerned about how you're coming across, I would suggest adding a more personal line or two along with the information you give. But that's not really necessary, so no worries! Did that make sense? Hope so!

Anyway- I appreciate your help and I'll keep you posted on how I get on!

Personal touch in greetings - absolutely right you are! I try to add that whenever I can and have time (there's never enough time for everything... )... But I have a feeling that in your case you didn't even have a nickname yet when I first popped in... Or I've left it out from the subject for some very weird reason - wouldn't be surprised... Weird things happen... But anyway... Hope you get that browser to obey you!!

Hi. I'm pretty dumb. I didn't realise that the computer doesn't "remember" my password if I LOGOUT everytime. Silly, silly me. Well, I figured that one out...now if only I could solve this problem: What's the geometrical meaning of the central extension of the algebra of diffeomorphisms of the circle?
Any ideas?

Great you got that sorted out! I should've thought about you possibly logging out - has happened to me too...
As to your second question - I have no idea... Perhaps you were better in explaining that one to me...
