Sheesh, just getting started and - whoop -I'm stuck.
So where is this "My Details"-button for my personal settings. Supposed to be on the left even the find function on my comp wasn't able to find it.
Maybe this is some plot to get only the most interested researchers to submit something? I'll just try the "preference" button to the right...

Hi Sam,
Apologies, the Preferences button (as you've no doubt guessed) was the correct choice... if you change your skin preference to 'classic goo' you'll find that it does say 'my details' on the right... the only problem being that new users are given alabaster as their default choice.

The powers (that work very hard) here are going to do something about that piece of misinformation...

...in the meantime, sorry again, & happy hiking! smiley - smiley

Any other problems, don't hesitate to ask me.

Hi Joanna,

Thanks for the fast answer.

one more question I got:

What does h2g2 think about submission in other languages than english?

I mean, why should I translate a comment about a german restaurant in a german city meant for german readers to english?
But how are you to check these entries against your rules?
And how would one get these entries approved?

Did ever someone thought of these problems?

have fun,
Sam

At the moment I believe h2g2's editorial policy only approves entries in English. I don't know what they'd do if you submitted in a different language; I can find out for you if you'd like, but I think that the answer will be that they can't transalate in house. h2g2 is an English run company, and if you do write an entry about a German restaurant in a German town, any English speakers who visited that town would be interested. I guess you don't get to choose your audience; when you write an entry you are automatically writing for people literally all over the world.

Your points are valid, though, I think I will bring them up with the powers, anyway, for my own curiousity.

Okay... here's what Abi, out Deputy Community Editor had to say (http://www.h2g2.com/U281)
"here is the official line. At the moment all approved entries in the guide
have to be in British English as that is the site's official language.

However, the use of other languages is an area that is a possible avenue and
it is certainly something that has been talked about in the past. It is not
part of h2g2's official plans for the immediate future. One reason for this
is the in-house language skills it would require.

anything written is still a guide entry -
its just that approved entries are in British English."
