Hi, So, if you live in Köln, how come you go out in Düsseldorf? Are you from Köln (sorry, can't write Cologne. I would hate it if some foreigner wrote Shäffielde instead of Sheffield for my home town)
So... that's all. Just wondered. How was AC/DC? I haven't seen them for years. About 7 years, maybe more. Last one I saw was Bob Dylan - he was awesome.
Liked your rat, but I have a >^..^<

No, Dear, I live in Düsseldorf, not Köln. Haven't seen AC/ DC, the Gig will take place in October...
You saw Bob Dylan? I would like to see him one day! And also I wanna see GN'R, but they don't seem to get along with each other. smiley - sadface
Thanks for your info on Waldfeucht- seems like the end of the world! Like Witten where I come from. So, if you are from Sheffield, why on earthdo you live in Germany? Wish I could live somewhere in GB! Anyway, our British friends always tell us they love Germany, nevertheless the Germans are not as nice as the British people. Can't wait to get there again- still 6 weeks to go...
Hope to hear from you soon, greetings to Waldfeucht and the nearest Pub! smiley - smiley

Have you been to the Kirmes yet? I miss that. When I worked in Oberkassel we used to go on the gay night (Monday?) because the crowd was much friendlier then. (and I have a few gay friends and they liked it better then - could have a good letch!)

G'n'R were rubbish when I saw them first time. (1988) then I saw them at the time of Live 'n' Let Die and all that. (Oh, I think it was the Use Your Illusion tour). They came on stage 2 hours late (Mannheim open air). The crowd were very angry and many had started to leave (which was good - less crowded). Then after 3 songs there was a power cut - band went off and nobody expected them to show again. More crowd left. Then after 1 1/2 hours they came back - and were awesome. 3 hours-ish. The highlight was Slash jumping on a speaker stack to show off then falling off (still playing guitar) his hat didn't come off and he still had a cigarette hanging out of the corner of his mouth! Bob Dylan is one of the coolest guys alive. Although now I'm worried because he played soooooo much brilliant stuff (and mostly remembered the words) and most of the old stuff that you would want to hear , that he's going to retire very soon (he is 60, after all) smiley - sadface (I got married on his birthday - I love his music, my mum used to play it to me when I was a kid)

Glad you like us Brits - most people seem to hate us! smiley - winkeye When are you going to UK? Where will you go?

Oh well, bored you enough already. Don't forget to tell me about AC/DC (where is it? btw - my husband would probably be interested in going)

Kirmes, Metal and gays

Hi Dear,
no, I haven't been to the Kirmes yet. In fact, it's not my kind of entertainment- got too expensive in the last years. I did not know that there is a gay night?! Woul be quite a good idea, I think, gays are more peacelike than heteros. Are they?
My boyfriend told me that he didn't like GN'R live; he saw them in 1992 or so. But he is a specialist when it comes to concerts, he must have seen everything!
I grew up with the music of ABBA, my mother had an LP and used to play it for me. When I was three ot four, my favourite song was 'I have a dream' , I used to call it 'angels'. Everytime when it was played on the radio, my Mum turned on the volume so I could sing with ABBA. Not beautiful, but loud!
Uwe (boyfriend) and I will go to UK in the first two weeks of September. We will go by ferry from Calais to Dover, visit a friend in Portsmouth, maybe visit London and then drive direction Scotland. Maybe I shouldn't tell an english woman, but I fell in love with Scotland. It is so beautiful! All british people were friendly to us (of course, in England, too!!!) when they found out that we are supporters of Borussia Dortmund and love the British football. Crazy country! We have several friends in Glasgow, and for the far future we plan to live there... if possible.
AC/DC will play in the Kölnarena on October 29th. Quite expensive, 95 Mark, but it certainly is worth it!
Shuld be all for the moment, gonna have something to eat- I am starved! smiley - smiley

Kirmes, Metal and gays

Kirmes is way, way to expensive. And full of Pokémon toys. Yuk.
Gay night is good, they are out to have fun (of course they're crusing too, but it's uncanny how they know who's gay and who's not). They dress up for the occasion (lots of leather) and there are even quite a few drag queens and trannies there. Great. My mum loved it!!
My daughters are growing up with Pink Floyd, Fury in the Slaughterhouse and Niel Young (amongst others - because my husband has Erziehungsurlaub and he chooses the music). But they love anything by the Spice Girls (!) and The Corrs. I can't believe it!
Before kids we went to hundreds of concerts. He (husband) always says that AC/DC are among the best ever, so you enjoy it! I prefer to go to small sweaty venues, we saw Def Leppard (from my hometown) in the Bisquithalle - which was great. And loads of bands in places like the Luxor (Köln), PC69 (Bielefeld), Kulturfabrik (Krefeld). But I like the festivals too. I went to the Rock am Ring every year for the first 10 or 11 years - but it got too much MTVised. I wanted to go to Roskilde (with kids) for Pearl Jam, but now I'm glad I didn't.
I hope you enjoy yourselves in UK. Scotland is beautiful - but Yorkshire is God's own country! Just don't tell me you follow Manchester United....?

ManU

Steffi

Everton- supporters use to say that ManU are s***e, and Everton has a friendly relationship to Celtic. I was there once to visit the stadium, but the guided tour was terribly expensive, so I left. No chance! My home club Borussia Dortmund has a friendship with ManU, but in my opinion, they are like Bayern München, rich,, arrogant and without a soul. Know what I mean?
Tell your husband to avoid Spice Girls- the next step could be Britney 'Titty' Spears- KOTZ! Do you want to pay your daughter's breast- Op? I would not! smiley - smiley Me too, I don't really like the Corrs, they lost the way for fame. Well- we don't have to buy he music, right?
Did I tell you that Uwe and I went to see the Dubliners? They are, well... old. Old. VEEEEEEEEEERY old. but the music is still brilliant. Nice grandpas!
Sorry, gotta go, have to prepare dinner. Hungry!
Take care, kisses!

ManU

I hate ManU, but mostly because I think that "the club" only cares about money. They're killing English football. (although I love Ryan Giggs, he's a bit of a cutie - and very skillful). I think the players are a load of spoiled brats - I wouldn't let my 3 year old behave like that!!
I have to tell you that I hate Irish Music. But live music is great. I saw Runrig at their concert at the Köln Tanzbrunnen in 1997, brilliant (especially as we had free tickets and backstage passes - we have connections!) They were brill, even though I don't know any of their stuff. Now I'm waiting for Jimmy Page and The Black Crowes to tour together!! (my 3 year old is called Saskia Paige, after Sir Jimmy! husband's request!!)
What did you have for dinner? We were at a B-B-Q next door (getting invited by German neighbours who we have only known for 2 years! progress! but I'm a veggie, so I had to starve)

Irish Music

Post 8

Steffi

For a long time, I hated Irish music, too. Like German Volksmusik- blörx!!! But from one day to the other, I started to like it, never ask why! ...???
Saskia Paige? Sweeeeeeeet! Nice idea! The child of my best friend is named Celtic, any questions? smiley - smiley If I ever have a daughter, her name will be Erin. Remember Erin Everly, the first wife of Ax Rose? But of course, that's not the reason.
I've seen Page and Plant once, at the Bizarre or at Rock am Ring, cannot remember. It was the most wonderful concert I've ever seen (together with THE WHO), the music goes right into your heart. Unfortunately I don't like the Black Crowes, but for Page it's worth a try.
For dinner we had Braties (Uwe had, I don't like stuff like that) and tomato soup. I am not really a veggie, but sometimes I can't stand the thought to eat an animal. Since I stopped smoking few months ago, my body has become more important for me. Less fat, more sports, less alcohol. Call me boring! smiley - smiley

Questions Questions

I'm just going to ask questions this time:

1. How long did you smoke? (I smoked for years and then gave up - I still hanker for a fag sometimes though)
2. how come you speak such good English (I'm assuming that you're German of course, please correct me if I'm wrong)
3. that's enough questions

Saskia Paige was the best soloution to our problem (we agreed on Saskia, Paige is nice anyway). But he did want to call her (if she had been a boy) get this: Bon Scott!!!!! No way José (although, Scott would be nice for a boy). Erin is a beautiful name - Was she the one in the November Rain video? Celtic though? Could be dangerous if s/he ever went to Glasgow (or even northern Ireland)

Do you still go to the Rock am Ring? I haven't been since 1996, I don't really want to take the kids, I think it will be bad for their ears, although I think it would be cool. I don't really like the music any more.

And, you're not boring for looking after your body. I wish I could do more sports (no time) and I eat way too much cheese and chocolate. Still, life without chocolate - nein danke. I hate the way it is Gesetzlich Vorgeschrieben here that you have to eat meat 4 times a day!!! smiley - winkeye

1. I smoked for four or five years- it all started when we ran out of alcohol...
2. Thanks so much! I don't know why my English is good. People use to ask me if I was from Ireland- I am not. We have some English and Scottish friends, and at school, I learned English for about 9 years. And, of course, the music.

No, Erin Everly was not in te video, that woman was Stephanie forgottherest... a model he wanted to marry. Right, if I ever call my daughter ( my FUTURE daughter) Erin, she might get into trouble, but if she is like me, she'd probably kick the troublemaker's ass... smiley - winkeye
No, I don't go to RamR any longer, it is too loud, crowded, expensive, kiddie- like... I don't know. It's not the kind of stuff I like. Last year was terrible, but I wanted to see Metallica. Cruel gig. was not worth the weekend. we saw them at the Cannstatter Wasen in 1997 or 1998, that was much better!
Well, sometimes I DO eat meat, because our closest relatives, the Gorillas, sometimes eat meat, too. Humans should try to eat like they would if living in the jungle. Fresh fruit and vegetables, of course, little meat. (blabla, but makes you feel good and healthy, honestly!) The only thing I wouldn't even try to live without is a good beer (or two or three) at the weekend...smiley - smiley

Ah, alcohol. Responsible for many things. If you look in my journal you'll see that it was recently responsible for something else!
I have lived in Germany for more than half my life, and ok I can speak German fluently, but I never get to write it very well. So good for you smiley - smiley
I have very fond memories of the first and second RamRs. They were always in June (so always sunny) and the music was good (not heavy enough for you, I suspect). But now: nein danke.
I hadn't heard that Gorillas eat meat, I know that chimpanzees do - and we have 99% the same DNA as them. And actually I don't have that much against it. In fact I love steak, bacon, Burger King etc. etc. But I hate our modern intensive farming methods. And when I was a teenager I worked on a farm and looked after the calves and lambs. And one day we ate one of "my" lambs. And since then.... yuk.
Beer, though. Why would anyone want to live without beer? Mad people, obviously. smiley - smiley
