That's how I feel about it too! Cider is Cider! Alas, nothing is simple anymore. If one asks for a cider at the pub; the reply is always, "What kind?"
The Okanagan Cider Co.,of Kelowna, BC, who produce God's reward to orchardists,
Okanagan Premium Crisp Apple -( extra dry only, please)- also produce:
Peach,Pear,Apple/Cherry,Apple/Berry and various (Sweetened! Ack!) flavoured "Cider"s which resemble wine-coolers or kid's soda and which, while cider-based, do not, IMHO resemble Cider.
The label is the key. If it reads: "Ingredients: Apple Cider (and/or) Cidre de Pommes" you've got Cider. If any other ingredients (contaminants?) like sugar,flavouring, etc. are listed, you are the victim of fraud and should be outraged!

Arrrghghhhghhhrrghhghghg How can they! I severely hope this curse on drinks has come from your southern neighbour - I always thought Canadians had better taste.

I have the luxury of living in Devon UK which has been at it longer than most areas (except I hate to say, France) keep drinking

Abolutely right! It began with California Cooler, which is a similar waste of wine. Mind you, being a cynic, I'm sure that it was invented as a way to pawn off a surplus of nasty boat-gas wine by disguising it with sugar and orange flavouring as there was little hope of selling it as actual wine!

Fraid I must fess up and admit to drinking an American import "Thunderbird - a blend of pear wines and herbs" when younger, now I just use it as paint stripper. Also I remember buying some wine labled as "A blend of wines from the European Comunity" Ah the wine lake.

I've heard T-bird is not very good, yet somehow popular...
