I've read somewhere (Anthology?) that McCartney has a theory that the word "beetle" was contemporary American biker slang for a girl who liked bikers, so when the Brando character (who is, of course, appropriately named Johnny) is told that "all the beetles missed you", the reference is not to to his fellow bikers, but rather their entourage of girls. Go figure.
