apocalypse now, especially the redux version, is a film set in vietnam, but it is not exclusively a vietnam war film, many characters, particuarly that of the russian, are pretty faithfully recreated.
It is also worth noting that conrad does not say where marlow journey's to, merely that it was once a place that was represented as a black space on a map when marlow was a child, but which had become gradually filled in.
