Had a rather interesting conversation with my boss yesterday... I'm taking a second job over the summer to get more experience in other areas of the Police Dept (so I can make a more informed decision if/when I decide to pursue a career there).

Her: Oh, by the way, you have to take a polygraph for your summer position.
Me: Oh? What do they ask in a polygraph?
Her: The usual. Have you ever done drugs, have you ever committed a crime...
Me: Eugh.

Ferrets are illegal to own in CA; it's a misdemeanor offense. So therefore I have not only committed a crime, but I am *STILL* committing it and admitting it to the police could conceivably get me prosecuted, fined, and my ferrets euthanized. PLUS, since that was something I failed to divulge when applying for my current position, I could also lose my job. smiley - yikes Bad news.

So I go freaking out for a while, then talked to another girl who works at the Dept, who advised me to just spill to my boss and ask if it was going to be an issue. So I think to myself, "No guts, no glory" and go find my boss.

Me: I have a question about the polygraph thing.
Her: Uh oh.
Me: I'm sure it's not as serious as anything you're imagining.
Her: Shoot.
Me: I... have ferrets. Is that going to be a problem?

She laughed at me.

Apparently, it's not a big problem. I also came to find that one of the officers that works at the Dept actually smuggled a ferret back on the airplane with him WHILE HE WAS ON DUTY IN TEXAS ON AN EXTRADITION!!!!! smiley - bigeyes

...Well I feel better now...

Good Doctor Zomnker (This must be Tuesday," said GDZ to himself, sinking low over his Dr. Pepper, "I never could get the hang of Tuesdays.")

Forgive the ignorant brit -- but I can't see why that'd even be a law at all, let alone a minor one. smiley - erm
But, since it's not a problem, smiley - oksmiley - biggrin

I was quite relieved, let me tell you.

It's a stupid law, but they're classified as wild animals in CA (originally because they were concerned about the poultry industry and the possibility of feral colonies popping up if pet ferrets escaped... never mind that CALIFORNIA IS A BLOODY DESERT!) But there is a bill that is trying to be passed to give amnesty to the estimated 1 million ferrets that already live in CA... ah, well. Stupid laws. smiley - smiley
