Ralph, the Janitor - Keeper of Magic Tricks that don't work (and some that do!) Started conversation Aug 22, 2001
Having worked 12 hour night shifts (on the nights I do work(?)) for 7 1/2 years now I can deeply understand your plight with a world geared to daytime. Why is it that so much that is available to the daytime world is denied to the night owls? And why is it that everyone else assumes that you should be wide awake and chipper, just because they are? I sleep days! I'm not even usually coherent 'till after about 4:00 in the afternoon, but then that lessens my opportunities to enjoy some of my favorite hobbies. Oh well.
Sorry if I've ranted on for a bit , just wanted you to know that there's at least someone else out here in the night.

Well to be truthful, I used to be a day person, but the necessity of making a living sort of snuck up and clobbered me over the head!!
But back to the night part. Even my friends that know I work nights don't think about it when they call. A typical conversation goes something like this, "Hi, Ralph?"
(me)"mrph...**##@**"
(caller)"Did I wake you up?"
(me)"yeah, but that's OK (lie), I can always sleep someother day."
(caller)" sorry, I thought this was your day off."
(me)"I don't get days off, I get NIGHTS off"
Well, you get the picture. There was one weekend that I was supposed to work Fri., Sat., and Sun. nights and got a TOTAL of 6 hrs. of sleep for the whole weekend (4 of that was on one day!). And, Yes, it would be nice to be able to do things when it was convenient for me. Things like going out to eat,(what do you mean you close in 10 minutes???), do banking (around here there aren't even any banks open on weekends!), or even getting parts so I could fix my car. Sometimes I'm not sure if it's just me and the leaning tower, or if the rest of the world is tilted!
By the way, yourself!!!

'Ya know, I just reread that last post I did. If I heard that much crap from someone else I'd have to offer them a towel to cry into. I didn't mean to whine and sob all over, it's just that there are so few people that understand about nights....

as for me, i just prefer the night. i think better at night. i can get up early, take a shower, eat a healthy breakfast, and STILL feel sleepy until 11am. but i'm never sleepy in the evening. like now, i'm not sleepy.

I hope this post works out better than the last three I have tried tonight. Maybe it's you!. Everytime I have tried to send you something a thunder storm has come up and the lightning has blinked my electric & knocked me off line.
Anyway, thanks for understanding about that whiny post. for that you deserve a BIG.
Actually I'm not complaining about the storms today as much as it sounds, we need the rain. Just not the lightning that goes with it. Oh, I enjoy watching a good lightning storm, better than fireworks, but the woods around me are still so dry I worry about wildfires.
Another storm coming, guess I'd better get off again.
PS. I've been gone a few days,'cause I've been busy.

No lightning with this storm, just rain, so I'm still around.
Sorry to hear about your ankle, how did you do that? Have you had any trouble getting around at Uni? Figured out where all your classes are, and how to get there? Tell us all about it (hopefully at night when we can think.

glad to hear that, ralph.
i stepped off a three inch tall curb without seeing it, and twisted it really bad. it makes things a bit difficult as i don't like elevators, and now i have to take them. and now i walk really slow, which sucks...
i haven't seen where all my classes are yet, i was planning to do that tomorrow (i start tues.) should be interesting now, with my gimpy leg. blech.

Has the air cleared yet? Is it safe to post now? Hope your ankle is better soon. And good luck with your classes, you will let us know how it goes, right?
