The waiting was over, being a none beleiver in the entrapments of finance I have spent the last year or so since the break up with my lady Furthering my efforts towards the goal of a big bike. Well I say big bike, all a matter of perspective I suppose, 600cc to me is big but some would say this was small especially my mate mick with the ZX12R. Anyway the money is in the bank. Various weeks of research on line with sites such as autotrader, MCN and the like had told me that the princely sum of £2500 would buy me a moderately new Bandit with not too much mileage. This is NOT so. I have found that although not technically untrue some details in these ads are glossed over with a very fine veneir of missing information. For instance a lack of mileage means that the bike has done 3 circum navigations of the globe. No mention of the bike bike being downgeared for, "more lower end torque". Like a 600 needs more lower end torque.
Only two owners from new, this is indeed a perplexing statement for any bike buyer because as far as the bike is concerned it means absolutely nothing after all its not like the bikes been sold for bad behaviour. The owners could have been Hooligans just escaped from the local mental asylum. So once youve waided through all the bull you are left with only one horrifying conclusion, might as well buy a bike from a dealer. So tuesday morning I'll be taking a 5 year old GPX600 for a test ride, its not the bike of my dreams but I can live with it, I can always start saving again maybe an SV650, and besides I need to get to Derby on Thursday and I dont fancy walking.
