Popping down the Bank

Spotted a comment on the Londonist, that there were guided tours of the Bank of England today, So decided to give it a go.
The museum there is open all year but they only do the tours on a few days a year and it appears last Saturday and today were the ones.
Quite a queue to get in... So word must have got around.
Interesting to get guided round some of the V. posh rooms, with very nice furniture, including the Governors office and the garden in the middle of the building.
No he wasn't in so I couldn't ask for a loan
The building is surprisingly modern, it was re-built between the wars only leaving the outside wall of the original to massively increase its size to accommodate all the staff on one site, but they transferred all the posh room interiors to the new building, together with choice bits like fireplaces from some of the other buildings they moved out of.
This is odd as the Bank has no Chimneys, so they are just for show.
After the tour a presentation on Bank notes and their security features followed by a good mooch round the museum, which has plenty of odd and interesting bits even if money is not your thing.
There is even a real gold bar you can get your hands on.
The most surprising thing, this being a Bank after all...
It is free
