Jim, if you're around, can you pop over to the Hub and check this out, please: F94020?thread=7281740

The message board system is randomly revealing people's passwords to third parties. smiley - yikes

And if the passwords were there to be revealed, that means they were stored unencrypted. In sites I build, passwords are stored as a salted hash.

Jim no longer works on h2g2, he left a year or so ago.

The h2g2 Editors would be the people to contact about this one.

Thanks, Peta, but it was specifically a message board problem rather than an h2g2 one. The sort of thing that we were encouraged originally to post about over on The Hub because it related to the DNA infrastructure rather than one specific site... smiley - doh

That was all a long time ago now.

I don't think anyone covers the Hub anymore, as far as I know no-one took it over when I left.

Jim works on something entirely different, he doesn't work h2g2 or DNA in any capacity, he hasn't for a year or more, which is why I directed the query back to the h2g2 team.

It's a moot point now, as when they switched to BBCiD they didn't update The Hub so nobody can log in there to post any more.

It still looks incredibly sloppy that nobody ever got round to posting a "Closed" notice there, though.

Well that the BBC cuts for you cant waste pixals or time in doing something as simple as that.
