on having a cold and having to go out

Post 1

notmyname

I'm feeling exceedingly grumpy this evening because I have a nasty cold. (a very sore and very runny nose, scratchy-scratchy swollen throat, laboured breathing and all-round achyness...to make matters worse my eyes won't stop watering, my skin is especially pasty and I feel like I am just about to get a headache...)and sometimes, when I laugh I wheeze and sound just a tiny bit like Sid James)

Yeah, yeah..I'm not dying. I still have my health, I live in a (relatively) civilised fashion. (not even sure if being civilised is necessarily a good thing..) But I digress...

I have to go out this evening. There's no choice, no possibility of putting it off because it's a Family Affair. On any normal day I would be delighed to go. My niece, who started senior school this year, is in a school play. My sister purchased tickets for every single member of the family. At each performance, there has been at least one representative of our clan present. AT LEAST ONE. The production has been showing on Thursday, Friday and the last night is tonight. So, you see, I have no choice. I do want to go. I just don't want it to have to be tonight.

My sister dropped the tickets round this afternoon and gave me strict instructions to ensure that our mother (whom I am accompanying) is to arrive ON TIME. (The whole "being on time" scenario is another kettle of fish...) Sometimes I think that she'd be nicer to me if I wasn't a member of the family. Like she doesn't make an effort because I'm a relative and I have to get on with her anyway.

So. I'm here. Moaning about not wanting to go out (and thinking, maybe I can stay in and watch telly) but at the same time wanting to see my niece in her play, so that I can let her know that we all think she's great and that we're really proud of her. (and also thinking that maybe the family presence at *all three* nights is maybe a bit much and too much pressure? and then wondering if it's better to care too much..and then getting all tangled up in thoughts that are probably pointless.

well. I'd better go.

break a leg.

or something!
