Sho - employed again! Started conversation Dec 7, 2014
I wanted to add someone to my friends list today, but I can't find the "friend" button. I did see a "subscribe to" thing. Has that replaced the "friend" function (ah, yes, I'm using Pliny)
on my space is there a list of my friends, and people who have me on their friends list?

Go to your personal space. Bottom right - list of friends: people you have friended. You'll see their journals. List of followers: people who have friended you. They'll see your journals.
Go to someone else's space. At top of their friend list there is an "add to friends" link. This will add them to your friends list.

That reminds me. I have many entries (mainly ones I wrote myself) where I clicked on "Notify me of conversations related to this entry". But in Pliny, apparently I have absolutely no "subscriptions". What is the difference and how can I transfer those Entries to my "subscriptions" list? I have no idea which entries I have asked to be informed about.

I have no idea what subscriptions on entries in Pliny are.

Scuse me for visiting unannounced - I found out the answer to this question by accident a while ago, so I thought I'd say so
When you visit another user's personal space, there is an option at the top to "subscribe to user" - any Entries they write will then appear in the Subscriptions list on your PS.

Oh I remember that now. Doesn't work for me, as I am in the process of recycling 200 entries I wrote earlier. I won't start making new entries until they're all used up.

Aaah - that explains it then, Sasha.
I have the option of clicking on "Inform me of any conversations about this entry" in Ripley. Which would place any new conversations on that entry in my conversation list, without me having a record anywhere of which entries I have asked for it.
Then I can subscribe to someone's page and all entries that that person has written will appear on my "subscriptions" list. (Whether I am interested in them or not?) Does that mean that I also get all attached conversations automatically in my convo list? I'll have to wait and find out.
Venturing into Pliny, I have also found that at the bottom of an entry I have "subscribe/unsubscribe" AND "Bookmark on your personal space".
On someone's personal space there is only "Subscribe to user" and "Unsubscribe".

I'll have a look - I found "subscribe to user" but that seems to be different from "add to friends"?
Thanks Gno

Yes, "subscribe to user" means that you will subscribe to that user's entries. To add to your friends, scroll down to the section that lists that user's friends, and click the link in capital letters that says "add to friends". All of which I think is exactly what Gnomon says above but I'm too tired to go back and confirm.
