Sho - employed again! Started conversation Jun 12, 2010
It was our company summer party yesterday and the first I've managed to attend for a few years.
We've cut the budget for these so now it's employees only (we used to invite families too but we're too big for that now). Yesterday the HR team pulled out all the stops.
We were divided into groups of 3 (and they made darned sure to mix up the sales/logistics/ accounting etc etc teams so you got to go with people you don't generally talk to) and put is in 3-person kayaks. We started upriver and had 3 hours to get to the place where they'd arranged a local Korean restaurant to come and do us a BBQ. There was also lots of beer and other food.
My boat had a young Korean fellow and a woman who started recently working part-time who I hardly know and we had a whale of a time. In fact it turned out that we all like this type of thing and managed the 11k run in 2 hours so we had plenty of time to relax and laugh at the others.
After food we had 3 representatives of each team (Sales, accounting etc) to race a 100metre course. My lot came second by a nose and we won an Amazon gift voucher. EUR 50 to spend on books. Yaaayyy. Of course, If I'd have known the winners were going to get a 100 euro voucher we'd have been the fastest by a mile
but oh boy oh boy, do I ache today, and I have blisters on my hands.

What a wonderful day. It seems that the weather was with you. Here it drizzled, rained and drizzled again - with lots of wind thrown in.

thank you Christiane
I'm in Germany.
But I now have more aches and pains since I went to the gym today (yes, I'm a sucker for punishment)

Sounds like a great way to spend a day - though I'm guessing you don't have any older or disabled co-workers!

we don't have any disabled people at our place - probably we should (and nobody has to take part in the events - some people just came to the party) but...
*I* am the older co-worker (actually, I think there are 2 older than me...

kelli - ran 2 miles a day for 2012, aiming for the same for 2013 Posted Jun 17, 2010
Goodness, I am glad you said that some people could just come to the beer and food bit! Forcing your employees to run 11k in order to take part in a company party sounds like cruel and unusual punnishment.
Sounds like you had a fun day though

Sounds like great fun! I've been river kayaking twice, and have done some messing about on the canal, and loved it. You got a lucky draw with your boatmates.
