And off I go again (only for the weekend, unfortunately).
My dear Mum has offered, now she's retired, to have the Gruesome Twosome for 2 weeks. The reason is that our childminder takes her holiday as the last two weeks of the school hols. We did that last year, and it was too much - too stressful for me and too long at her place all day for the gruesomes.
So, this year we went for the first 3 weeks or so, and have been back a week and a bit. Now I'll fly over to UK on Saturday (very early) drop the Gruesomes at my parents and then fly back Sunday night.
Which is nice because I get some quality time in bookshops. And I may just have to buy the next 4 in the Sharpe series.
Shame!
And then I have 2 weeks where I can come home and do whatever I want - play with my power tools, flop around watching movies featuring men with swords and some or two, sew, iron, read... go to the cinema.
(I have my first cinema trip with one of the girlies at work next Tuesday)
And the weekend.... ah, the weekend... I'm going to Cologne on Saturday. Because I can. Sunday I'm determined eithr to stay in bed all day or lounge in the garden (in the unlikely case that we have good weather)
Bliss!

Just wondering why, if Sho has so much time to herself, she's not been online lately. Hope nothing serious has happened.

Hi!
Me again.
Actually, I've been so busy I haven't had time to get here to post (I can look at lunchtime at work though)
I had a fab weekend, I really am the Olympic shopping champion. I even managed to get clothes for work that I actually like and would wear outside of the office. Including a very nice pinstriped trouser suit thing (the stripes are brown) from BHS of all places.
Monday we built up #2's high bed and watched some of ROTK, Tuesday I went to the pictures to see (T)Raumschiff Surprise (more of that in the drool thread) with a friend from work, Wednesday... well, I'm having some kind of hyperactive thing going on at the mo. Not only did I clean the bathroom then I did some work on #2*s schultüte, and then... I went for a run.
That, however, gets its own journal entry.
And I'm a clot. I really should have contacted you, TC to see if you fancied meeting up this weekend. Probably it's too late now.
In short: I'm having a fab time - and it appears the gruesomes are too. Not sure how the grandparents are holding up, either they're ok or they're just putting a brave face on it!

Yes - I saw that you'd be in Cologne and did think of it, and I would only have had the excuse of trying to catch up on housework after being away for a holiday.
Really glad you've turned up again.
In France, they call the return to school "La Rentrée" and this word has more far-reaching connotations than just buying a few books and kitting the kids out and sending them back to school. It also includes all such areas as re-thinking your own wardrobe, re-arranging or decorating your home, preparing for winter generally, and doing things that usually go under the heading "New Years' Resolutions".
Someone once said that new year resolutions should be made in September, especially with regards to diets, etc., as this is the time when you are (possibly) slimmer and browner and more attractive to yourself and are prepared to do something about keeping that way. In January it's cold and miserable and all you want to do is cuddle up by the fire and comfort-eat, and tradition is forcing you to think of living on yoghurt and running for miles through dark, wet woods.
So your projects all fit that category. As well as the extra boost of being rid of the kids for a time.

PS If we'd met up in Cologne we could have bought running shoes together - I'd have needed some advice!

I try to get to Cologne every 2 months or so, so we have time before Christmas - we really ought to give it a go.
How long does it take you to get there? I could go a bit further, it's not too bad from here (finally I live in a town with a train station!)
I remember a friend of mine going on about La Rentree - it is a really good idea, better than spring cleaning (a bug which hit me this year for the first time ever!) Today I'm doing mostly me-stuff, which is fun. I've had a fab time in the Baumarkt this morning scaring the young men with my ineptitude with a drill - I'm sure when I left they wanted to call a preventative ambulance to my house.
And the diet thing is right too, one of my colleagues has just started at Weight Watchers. The woman there said there are 2 categories of people who come: those who come in January and just before their summer holiday, and those who come after summer but before autum/winter really sets in. The former group usually only turn up once or twice, but the latter group have success.
Key: Complain about this post
