Hi Sho
I thought it was only fair to let you know about this:

It sounds a great idea - but I' m not sure yet I can make it.

Thanks for the info (how did you find out about it?) I won't be able to make it, as my "old man" works at weekends and I have to look after my kids! (because during the week I'm the local Rabenmutter!)
Btw, did anything come of the lacy knicker man?

Lacy knickers - am still waiting for a call!
Sorry you can't come to Amsterdam. I can't see any reason why I shouldn't go, except financial, waiting for the Arbeitsamt to pay out my August money. Hope there's no problems because I went to hospital for most of the month!
BTW I noticed in one of your other conversations that you had just had a miscarriage. Do you feel OK now? Are you overdoing it?
pair of sickies!!
Sho - employed again! Posted Sep 8, 2000
Hope you're feeling OK. Hospitals are soooooo depressing, aren't they?
I'm ok now, still got "bump envy" and the psycological problems associated with having lost an "unplanned" baby, but we're ok. Off on holiday next week (unless the lorry thing spreads to Germany) so I suppose that will help.
If I can bring the ankle-snappers, I may make it to the meeting - I just got a pay rise!!!! which will kick in around then.

That would be nice. How's about, if I go and you don't, I drop in on the way back (Sunday lunch/tea-timeish) and tell you about it!!

Sho - employed again! Posted Sep 11, 2000
Yes. That would be great! I'll e-mail you my address if you like. And my phone number then you can let me know either way.
I'm still working on getting there myself, but that will be the next best thing (I love Amsterdam, partly on account of all the English-language bookshops!)

I've never been to Amsterdam. Perhaps I ought to spend Friday afternoon there. Looks like this plan is materialising!!

I'm terribly sorry for invading, but I just thought I'd give you an update of the current plans. The people from England (Mark, Peta, Abi, Demon Drawer and Ormondroyd) are arriving Friday morning, so we'll probably leave for Amsterdam somewhere in the afternoon. My guess is that we'll be leaving about 3pm. Hope you're still able to make it

Sure you don't want to meed up in Sittard (near me) - It has as much to offer as Amsterdam, such as... well, I'll think of something
Trillian's Child - I'll still send you the info, then if ever you're near me.....

I know. I've been to Sittard a couple of times. I'm not sure if it can stand up to Amsterdam though...
IMHO, Amsterdam is the best place to be in the Netherlands

I love Amsterdam. I have never, ever (apart from my home town of Sheffield) been to such an overwhelmingly friendly place. Plus, for me as an ex-pat Brit this is a big bonus, English language bookshops galore (ok, 3 but that's a lot for me) Boots (in Haarlem) and M&S (although I don't like them so much now). I heard (sniff sniff) that my favourite restaurant has closed, so I don't know if I'll like it so much on my next visit. (Oibibio - I think)
Sittard... Well at least I can buy my veggie stuff there (which I don't get at home). Have a good time in Amsterdam.

I agree. I also love to browse through the bookstores (WH Smiths, American Bookcenter etcetera). They have a lot of fantasy books that I can't get in a normal bookstore.
Although it's a shame you can't make it , we will most definately have a good time. Maybe next time will be in Sittard (if there's anyone willing to organize)

I'd arrive around that time on the Friday afternoon, too - in that case I will come to Amsterdam and not Alphen. Still not 100% certain that I'm coming. Can not give definitive answer till next week. Perhaps we can organise a car pool - one or two or the Germans are making positive noises, too.
I live on the Rhine, too, so I just have to follow the water. Could even come by boat!! If I don't come, I'll make a little paper boat for you to look out for.

LOL!! I'll just be sitting at the dock of the bay then, watching the ships roll in .
Well, as soon as you know whether or not you'll be able to make it, let me know (and with how many people), cause we have to find out how much floorspace we need, and who's going to provide it.

This is my thing. If I come, I'll be on my own. The only other candidate for coming would be my eldest son but he would have to miss a day at school and he's in Holland sailing with the school at the moment. Thanks Holland for the good weather you're laying on for them. They are touring the Eijselmeer (sorry about spelling)

Holland is glad to be of service .
OK, so we know about that. We have to think of a way to meet up in Amsterdam though, but ICQ or email would probably be a better way to arrange that.
Sailing on the IJsselmeer is great fun. I did that once. I was soaking wet, but I had a brilliant time that day.

I haven't set up ICQ yet. Will e-mail you when I have booked train.
When I was my son's age, we sailed over to Holland/Belgium for our summer holidays. We went up the coast and I distinctly remember Veere, Vlissingen, Middel..something??, all picture book places. On Sunday morning all the women wore their traditional dress to go to church. They washed the fronts of their houses every morning.

Ah, our beautiful province of Zeeland. Been there quite a few times. It's great out there. But if you like pwople in traditional clothing, you should also visit Volendam or Urk. It's even better there.
