I think the perfect partner is someone that has the potential to grow with you. If we are constantly evolving as individuals then it is important that, as we evolve, we redefine or reorganize our relationships as we grow so that our relationship grows as well. If there is no room for growth in the relationship then it will not be able to support us emotionally as we change thoughout life. The problem with this is that when we initially fall in love with someone, we have a firm concept of who that person is. If the person changes, or if we change, then we may have the feeling that "they're not the person I fell in love with" and we may fall out of love.
Some advice on finding the "perfect partner": find someone whom you can share trust with. That way you will be more apt to share your "growing pains" with that person.
