Does music matter at all?

Okay, you know it does, and i know it does. I've listened to bands on mp3s that i've never even seen, so i can only picture what they look like, but i still listen to them.
My point is though, boy bands. Can you tell the difference between a band A's music and Band B's music? I can't. Some 13 year old girl probably can't either, but one of them has spikey hair so they buy all that bands singles, posters, and everything. So, does the music REALLY matter in todays pop world at all? Probably not.
But, on the other end of the spectrum, dance (a genre i hate with all my heart, apart from a few selected acts, like Fat Boy Slim, Moby and Utah Saints). Dance is all about the music. When people go to clubs, they don't go to see their fav DJ, they go to get ratted and to listen to the music they like. I don't really know why i'm mentioning this, but i thought i would, while i thought about it.
But then there's rap and hip-hop. I don't even know if they've got different images at all (apart from the obvious ones like Slim Shady, Cypress Hill and some others) They all look the same to me. A lot of them look the same, and more of them sound the same. I think rap is all about the lyrics, and not the music.... i don't know. Apart from Rap-rock, like Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, and so on. But then i these mix the lyrical meaning of rap with the musical meanings of heavy rock, which has resulted in something that really appeals to me.
Metal.... i can't really think of anything to say on this. Rock and metal are my personal favourites, so i'd probably be biased anyways. Oh yeah, i think your mentioned something about the stereotypical metal fan has long hair and no girlfriend. Well, i object to that *looks in mirror and thinks* Doh!.

Pop: Ugh, I'm retching as I write about these posers. Nobody cares about the music here. There's no talent involved. Unless you count the talent of the record companies as they squeeze money out of their gullible audiences. Do you hear the 13-year old girls talking about the music? Usually they're gushing over how cute Adolf from Backshaft Boys is. Despikkable.
Dance: The trouble here isn't the music (it's not that bad at all), it's the lifestyle. Who loves dance music? Kevs. You go to a club and there'll be one thousand of them dressed up in designer gear, baggy jeans and stuff, popping E tabs and going "fockin' fockin' innit?" Leiber nicht!
Rap: Again, it's the lifestyle. All the people I know who like rap/hip-hop are white trash black wannabes with skateboards and designer fashion gear. Yuck. To you or me, your favourite rap band (or whatever) would come from whose lyrics/percussion beat you prefer: Shitepress Hill, Limp Dipshit or Kid Cock.
Metal: Kill the pretenders and have the time of your life belting your ears out to some good honest men playing good honest music!
Really, I likes metal because the sound matches me. It's aggresive, I'm aggresive. The lyrics I can almost always relate to (though you don't need to be a poet to write a good song) - aggresive, hate-filled anti-everything-that-ever-pissed-you-off.
There's more to it than this, but this is the metal I listen to. Such a diverse genre, yes?
(btw - I have not read this guide entry since I wrote it so I don't know if what I've just said has any relevance to anything that's already been said. Even if it hasn't, I like to get these things off my chest)
