I was thinking about this during my free period today and I just kept pondering it.
Why is it that the vision of the future we had in 1970 (i.e. what was in "2001: A Space Oddyssey") hasn't materialized yet? It seems that we have only gone forward with respect to computing power and the almighty Internet. Why have we no flying cars, just the magically disintegrating Firestone tires? And why is it that instead of a "Planet of the Apes" situation where monkeys rule the entire world, that we just have a monkey who's going to take the presidency of the US? (Yes, I am very anti-Bush, and completely unrepentant about it.)
And why, pray tell, have we no spaceships that will fly me to Callisto for a meeting with a 1:4:9 monolith that will raise me to a higher level of existence?
(Note: I watched "2001," but I never got up to that point. I fell asleep way before it.)
Now I must get to Phys Ed... Oh how I hate that class. Ah well...

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
