Great, great article. I loved it. Thanks for answering some of the common questions, thanks for putting some humor in it.

Thanks, Courtesy.
I had great fun writing it. Tough part was balancing making it fun to read, providing lots of info, and not having it be a book!

Amazing. If I was subbing this then I wouldn't change a thing. Well, ideally (no doubt -some- boring fart would complain ).
Something that impressed me was the GuideML...you've picked it up very quickly, haven't you?
So, what's left to be said? A very factual, professional entry. Well done

Thanks, Mike!
As far as GuideML, I found that it's really quite clean in its structure (regular HTML is much messier), once you get to know the rules.
Since I do all my regular web design work (I'm webmaster for 3 sites) in html (not a 'front-page' editor), the GuideML is similar once you remember the fact that all tags are containers and there are some that are done in a different way. I use BBEdit for my web work, and I'd love to find someone to create a set of GuideML plugins for BBEdit -- I'd give it a shot, but I have enough projects hanging around without learning C compiling
It was actually a little trickier getting a handle on the Guide's text style rules (using ' instead of " etc) but I think I figured them out.

Yeah, GuideML is simple once you get the easy bit. Though I don't get how to do tables...
As for HTML, I've never dione anything more complicated than . Any gadgets and stuff has been stolen (copy&paste ).
What's this about using ' instead of " ?

I know exactly what you mean by the problem with GuideML. I'm trying to learn it myself, having done all my HTML in NotePad does help. But I'd have never imagined that I'd have to open and close paragraph tags!

Mike,
When I said ' instead of " I was referring to the style guide preferring the use of the single quote within guide entries as opposed to the double quote, whereas in my editing work on paper, you always use the double quote unless it's nested within another quote. A few little differences like that that threw me for a bit.... but I'm better now.
As far as stealing gadgets and stuff for html, I thought that was the only way to learn it! I started all my html learning by by simply using the magic command 'view source'
Aster,
Good to see you're finding your way around...
Certainly the fact that you've done html in notepad will be a GREAT help! Just remember that ALL tags in GuideML must be opened and closed... get used to all caps for the tag words, then it's just a matter of learning a few of the GuideML-specific tags, like Boxholder, Header, Subheader, Picture, Link, etc.

By the way, Mike...
When you get a chance, say hi to Aster (above). He just started here today.
Aster, Mike's one of the bigwigs, here ... An ACE and a Sub-Editor, I believe, as well as a good guy, and knows his way around a whole lot better than me.

Ah-ha. Sorry to say, but that is no longer the case.
In trying to stick up and defend myself, the PTB here have labelled me a sinner. I am no longer an ACE. I am no longer a sub-editor.
That's right. Some f****r decides to f**k me up, so I get the s******g for it. Well, no more. No more good guy for these c***s, as far as I'm concerned...
But you lot are ok. I'll say hi to Aster tomorrow as right now it's 11.12pm and I'm tired *^_^*
