the new me

April 30 1999:
I have just gotten over mono, just gotten the O.K. to
leave the house, return to work, and life in general.
Unfortunately, something inside of me will never be the
same. It might have been the high fever for almost two
weeks. It might have been the fact I've just been pumped
full of more different and interesting drugs than
Woodstock in the last few weeks. Or maybe I overloaded on
Judge Judy, Jerry Springer, the Daily Show; and other such
collections of brain candy.
But something about me will never be the same again. And I
can't quite put my finger on it yet. I'm not bitter, or
remoseful, or happy. I just seem to be slowly losing this
paralyzing shyness that has held me back most of my life now.
Maybe "letting go" is a better way to put it.
