Well, Here I am at your site and find an antifacisttext of best german qualitiy. Thats the stuff we had at school.
I believe I like your comparison especialy, as I belong to the kind of kid, brought up superchristian. I count myself as "churchly abused" and had a real hard fight to get over it. At work the know me for the fact, that I´ll jump on anybody who just intends to say something about anything christian.
So I already have to revise my first impression on your short letter to my newentry.
Perhaps we could have a few more conversations in future. You seem to have some interesting opinions. And you HAVE been reading a few good books latly.
Ever read "The triffids"? That was my latest read.

I am glad you like it
I'd written this as a bit of a joke, but I think it has very valid points. I tried not to be totally pro-Nazi or anti-Christian (I have been accused of being both before), merely tried to make valid points while having fun with myself
At primary school, we were tought that god was greatest, and christianity was the only religeon. I only really learnt about other religeons until my last year.
On books:
I have never read The Triffids. That's the one with the plants that take over earth, yeah? My parents recommended that to me, I think.
Have you read Watership Down? That has to be one of my favourites ever

I´ve read that. But that was 10 or 15 years ago. I remember it as a good story.
By the way, about the skeletons in the cupboard. One of the skeletons is India. The other one is Southafrica. The latter is conected with the Invention of Concentrationcamps by the britisch.
It is late. I´ve been up to long latly. I might pop around to your page around the end of next week.

Watership Down has a big place in my heart
I hope you do not mind me going on about Nazis. But I am about to...
What you say is very true. The reason the Germans get picked up about it is that the Nazis received terrible PR, while British crimes against humanity simply get forgotten.
History is written by the victors, which is why everyone is so anti-Nazi. This is mostly a good thing, but nobody wants to consider the good things that the Nazis did. They revatilised the world's economy and brought it out of the Depression, for starters.
Have you noticed that the article has been cancelled? Somebody doesn't like what I've written...

Cheers Mike.
Well, I did notice. The problem with having a look at fascism is, why do we find it fascinating? I always ask myself, why do people find Horormovies good, why do certain people think f**king little children ok?
Having a look at things in detail is good, but how we grade it is very personal. You can of course try to be political correct, but that is just another form of extremism.
I make a full stop, if you try to say, Hitler wasn´t that bad after all,or try to excuse the holocaust. Just have a look at Ethiopia!!!
History all over again. Nobody learns.

Me and my parents (+ little brother) went to the Imperial War Musuem in London last easter. We went to the bit where it all said how World War 1 started...in the Balkans, and mother says "and they're at war again right now". When you put it like that, it doesn't seem like much progress for 85 years of work *^_^*
The holocaust I do not quite like...gives me the willies. One thing that puts me off Nazis are the tortures. I -hate- torture, gives me the creeps!
Of course, it's been a part of humanity since god knows when. Some people make more use of it than others (witch-hunters, Inquitision).
And I HATE political correctness. A form of facism in it's own right.

Look Here
Since I was 12 I have always been intrested in any film about Hitler and co. There was a fantastic Documentry run on the German Telly somwhere around 1986/1987, I can´t quite remember when.
My german Granddad survived the Russian Camps and came home only in 1955. That meens he belonged to the last 50000 who were let out.
This is just part of the historical dimension that I could experience in my family.
Now look at modern rightwing movements. There all on about foreigners blocking up jobs, a few of them in Germany run about as Skinheads and get put into the category of "Youngsters with emotional problems and "brocken-home-syndrom"(By the way, that is a german expression), but none of them realy think about the real problems arpound: Love, Life and the persuit of happiness (whatever that may be).
One of my favorite passages in the Hitchhikers Guide is where Arthur hangs around in Slatibartfasts office and Arthur asks him, if his Philosophy works out.
So I should hang the sense in all of it and get on with a bit of work.

Here's a larger question: which movement, Nazism or Christianity, was better for the planet, in the long run? I'm not stepping in to defend Christian excesses, but I believe one very large distinction has to be made. Christianity brought all it could of civilisation through the Dark Ages and kick-started the Renaissance. Nazism did its best to bring about new Dark Ages.
It seems to me that the modern German nation has paid its dues and that we may soon be able to un-demonise Hitler (I reserve demon status for Goebbels) and better understand the processes that made it possible for a mediocre man to gain such power. After all, here in America we endure rule by men whom it would be generous to call mediocre (I'm thinking of Jesse Helms). It's extremely important to realise how fragile democracy is.
I have no liking for Fascism and no time for any neo-Fascist movement, but I do recognise that Fundamentalists, whether Christian, Moslem or Jew, are just the theocratic variety of the same animal.
Consider that in Afghanistan you can be stoned for shaving. I can be stoned if I accidentally let part of my arm show in public.

It's just that the Nazis made their bad stuff up front and personal where everyone could see it.
A point I've just thought is...I've forgotten *^_^*
I have so many different points at so many different times, I can never remember which one I was trying to make when I started out *^_^*
Yeah, christianity did all those good things...but then, Nazism kick-started the world out of the Depression, didn't it? Their weapons and technology was absolutely phenomenal, they had stuff in the pipeline that was well ahead of its time, didn't it?
And hell yeah, they did more bad things then good things. But then, so has a good few other regimes over the world that people can't be arsed to pick fights over. Christ, if you're going to pretend you care over humanity, then do a good job of it and stop picking on easy targets that everyone already knows about.
*that was directed at no-one in particular*
Yeah, christianity has prolly done better stuff in the long run. But why is it I want to break the neck of almost every christian I run into. There's always something about them that's so....so...so...irritaiting! They way they get entries like mine taken down cos they can't bear to face shit. Anything that attacks their feeble little religeon, they campaign to have it burned and torn down. IT MAKES ME GODDAMN MAD!!!

Have I missed my own pint? Do I care? I had a mental block, so a bit of ranting came to mind. Feel free to contribute sensible things from now on
