Well something must have happened over the past couple of weeks that's worth writing about... but I can't think what that might be.

Hi, John,
Oh, dear, we seem to be in the same boat A few flakes of today, and two robins displaying to each other is about as exciting as it gets. Snowdrops showing through and it is bitterly cold
Oh, well, peace and quiet is good I suppose. Life will erupt again soon no doubt, In the meantime it's a good chance for a ..................... of course we could have burst pipes, heating packed up or something interesting like that
I think I prefer the current state of affairs

Hi, Websailor.
What's that old curse? 'May you live in interesting times.' Let's hope we don't have to take such a keen interest in plumbing. It certainly has been cold enough to burst the pipes.
In fact, I've just come in from a walk around the neighbourhood. It's a lovely winter's day, though very cold. Still, I think I do prefer cold, clear days like today to the dreary grey days we seem to get more and more of each winter. The forecast is for blowing snow and whiteout conditions later on; so I'd better stay in this afternoon and play around on hootoo.
Lucky you, to have snowdrops popping up already! Any soil to be found here is as hard as concrete. It will be ages yet before there is any sign of new life. Anyway, we gardeners have faith that the life is down there somewhere, waiting patiently for warmer weather. There's a lesson for us.
Cheers,
JTG

JRG,
The daffs are shooting up here too, and there are signs of life everywhere, though if we get a real dump of snow it will spoil a lot.
I prefer the cold bright days too, however cold. The dull, grey, damp days drive me round the bend. So depressing, and I seem to feel it more the older I get.
Somehow that bit of sunshine seems to get the adrenalin going again. I'm up till Xmas then my spirits take a dive. I potter in the garden, feeding the birds and that is a tonic in itself, it gets me up in the morning, as they tap on the window and shout down the chimney if I am late feeding them . Then they come and "talk" to me while I am filling up the feeders. Lovely.

The birds get me through winter, too... and the squirrels; though they do get up to some mischief. It does seem a long time from New Year until the start of spring. It's like seeing your car parked on the far side of a giant parking. But it does end eventually.
Key: Complain about this post
