h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Hello there!

Long time no hear. I hope everything is well with you.

I just wanted to tell you my good news. I rewrote my Of Rivers Unseen story, and submitted it for possible inclusion in a Sci-Fi Anthology. I suspect my story is more speculative than Sci-Fi, but I thought to myself why not give it a shot? A few days ago, much to my complete surprise I heard that’s it has been accepted. I know it’s only a very small success, but I must admit I’m really excited about it.

I think this story first began to form in my head, probably from a conversation I was having with you about Norfolk. Anyway, from the original draft I have developed both the Norfolk theme and the old man’s character. Even though it’s all been a bit of a struggle (I’ve often felt my work is not good enough, not written well enough) - it seems my inner struggle has been worth it in the end!

I wanted to send a personal thank you, because if it wasn’t for you - and a few other very special people on the h2g2 site - who have both encouraged and supported my efforts, I suspect that I would have given up on my writing a long time ago.

I’m going to post the latest draft back on h2g2, (A4926341) sometime soon if you want to take a look. I say the latest draft because the publisher wants me to tweak it here and there - although I’m not sure where as yet.

Congratulations Flame/Pauline . Really well done, I'm so pleased and I hope there're many more such successes. It's definitely a success.

I think you're mixing me up with someone else over Norfolk though. I remember talking most about your Rwanda story I think. Oh, and the very different 'Emperor's New Clothes' one . Norfolk - I know Norwich a little, some of the bird places, and a beach still covered in land mines.

Anyway, I'm glad you found encouragement here. I've certainly enjoyed your stories, and I'd be interesed to see how you've rewritten Rivers Unseen.
