Ah, my favourite opening move. I shall be on-line some weekday lunchtimes, 12:50 to 1:45.

I'm usually good for about four or five moves a week...
As for the chess pieces, I heard they were trying to get hold of some new, improved icons from somewhere, but these don't seem to have materialised as yet...
Your move...

Ok, I'm done...
I'm confused (nothing unusial there ), but the kning and queen seem to have been transposed on the board. I thought that the queen stood on the square of her colour, but the simbol in that square is that of a king! What am I getting wrong?!?!

Hmmm... No, I don't think you're wrong at all... I notice the guys in the match below are having the same problem...
I've sent Pastey a message via the h2g2 Chess forum, and hopefully he'll notice this and change the code... but unfortunately he doesn't seem to come online very often, so I imagine the best thing to do is just to play on as though kings & queens were in the right places, and treat them as if they were if we have to move either of them (if you see what I mean by this very garbled statement)...
Bad show, spoils the game a bit really. Anyway, well spotted...

He probably just got the names of the icons muddled up... I was ages trying to sort out my hexagonal chess artical at http://www.h2g2.com/A233281 .
Aaaarrrggghh! I see that I moved the wrong one for my first move! I usially move the pawn in front of the king, but, as I said, I havn't played in a while. Oh well.
We (the players of h2g2 chess) should (a) organize a tournament, although at the curent rate of play this could take several months, and so we should (b) try and find a profesional programmer to write a descent chess engine (at least, one that detects illegal moves, and which lets you click on the board to make moves).

I'm mirroring you at the moment because I'm not sure what else to do. Haven't played black for a while...
I think Pastey probably knows what he's doing programming wise, he just hasn't been around much lately to check up on bugs and general problems in the running of the program. I would imagine a professional programmer would cost far too much - as far as I'm aware most people on h2g2 don't get paid for what they do, although I could be wrong...
There was talk of a tournament, but that's another thing that hasn't got out of the pipeline as yet...

Sorry for the delay,.. that was supposed to be a castling, BTW.

If you want to make a castling move you have to get in touch with Pastey and ask him to change the coding. Look at the most recent journal entry on the Chess Player home page - there's a bit about it there. I'm afraid there doesn't seem to be any other way around it.
Oh dear. I've got a sinking feeling about this game...

I have to say that I am getting bored of this game... sorry, but do you think that we can call it off?
I had expected to be able to make moves in real time, but I am busy with collage work, and fear I cannot spend time on what is little bertter that postal chess.

I tend to agree. Wasn't really working too well anyhow...

Sorry guys. I know you've given up on this game a while ago, but I'm glad to have read your comments.
I haven't been around much as I got a job and got married So pretty much all of my time was accounted for.
This chess programme was a bit of an experiment really, and in general it seems to have worked. There will probably be an updated version of this at some point in the future, depending on things like work, and I'll be taking your comments into mind when I do it
