Write in the journal they said. So I am. Nine words already, and counting. Maybe this is easier than I thought. No.It isn't. Do you ever look at words and think how strange it is that you can make strange marks on a piece of paper and a complete stranger can receive a piece of your thinking? And yet you can write a thousand words and still no one will understand you. Still I am just an antipodean idiot, what you people in B.B.C land like to think of as a colonial. Some of my forbears came from around Edinburgh, some perhaps from the Isle of Skye, and some from Dublin. Contrary to what you might think none of them were prisoners. Not that this fact necessarily means they were better people. Us Oz people don't think along those lines. In fact my great grandfather on my mother's side was a prison warder in Tasmania, a fact that makes his character highly suspect. Unfortunately Tasmanian records are hard to find. The only information my mother was able to recall (hearsay) was that he was sometimes referred to as Handsome Steve Tierney. Maybe he was not all bad, but then, who is?

Kanga or Lew?
The journal entry was fascinating. Like the worst thing you can be in the land of the Convicts (as we Poms like to call them - all in the best possible taste and feeling of friendship of course) was to be a Warder!
The shame of it seems to have percolated down the generations of your family...
Anyway, I'm just saying hello and welcome to hootoo and thanks for your participation in the Poetry thread - long may it continue.

Thank you for your kind words and friendly invitation. I may be a little hesitant as I am not good at this social intercoursing. A devilish condition called paruresis and an introverted personality has kept me separated from the normal interaction of my peers. (I did not intend that last word to be a pun.)(Good though.I wish I had thought of it.)((I'm assuming you know what paruresis is.)) Lost my train of thought now. So I am elderly and awkward and I may have trouble keeping up with the subtleties of your friends, but what the hell! "I am what I am and that's all what I am." (Popeye the Sailorman.)

Great!
Welcome, Lew. Don't worry about age, quite a few of my friends are of the older persuasion. Just have a look at my friends list and check out their Personal Spaces.

Thought your latest - 'The Earth', she is Goddess enough for me - was brilliant and apt Lew the one false note to my ears was 'fools', which seemed cliched somehow. Something like 'in your venality' might have been better. Hope you don't mind me pointing this out, it really was the only bit short of brilliance in the whole piece for me
Unfortunately it would be silly for me to say how good I think your pieces are each time - can you just take it that I really enjoy each one?
Have you considered writing for The Post? I think you should. They feature poems, and I bet you could write other things too. You can find The Post on the Front Page of Hootoo if you haven't done so already, and on the Post's own front page it tells you how to make submissions.

Thank you for your kind words Jab, but if you don't mind I'll stick with "fools". For one thing I am too lazy to change what I have written, and for another, it came from the heart. The outrageous idiocy of the human race (I speak in generalities of course) who can see nothing beyond the profit line can only be the result of tunnel visioned fools. We now have one of our politicians advocating the mining of minerals in Antartica. He will no doubt justify this by saying that the Chinese and the Russians are about to do so, If they are not doing so already. Maybe he is pushing for a pre-emptive mining dig. I often wonder about the dinosaurs. Nobody REALLY knows why they vanished. They kicked around for sixty million years and then they were gone. Maybe the Mice didn't like them. After all they weren't making much progress. And maybe the Mice will get sick of what we are doing.
Bye bye the money mad men!!!

OK, Lew, you're the author! Fools does seem appropriate after all - money mad men, money madmen...self, self, self, and there goes the human race
Don't forget about The Post though, if you're interested

Hope you're ok, Kanga Lew. I think you one who weighs their words, rather than scatter them like feathers (me)

you can talk to anyone -

I'm OK thanks Goldy. I have often envied the female ability to converse.
I would like to be able to throw words to the wind and see what patterns they may form. Putting your thoughts into the written form can be a brave thing. I am not brave. I am however, quite happy in my own wierd way.
