Cornwall and other coastal towns

Cornwall is rich in environmental beauty, but poor in financial terms. This is made worse by people from richer areas of the country, who seem to think of it only as a large holiday park/resort, and don't consider that it is also a living, breathing and working community of people who actually live and work there.
People who can afford to buy second homes there, or sell small terraced homes for exhorbitant sums in other parts of the country enabling them to buy large estates in the county are stifling the life out of the community.
These people, having given token to the idea of wanting to experience a different way of life, then usually start complaining about it and try to change things to how they think they should be - usually wanting things to be the same as the life they've left!
Because of the 'shortage of affordable housing' situation that they have created, local councils are faced with building new estates on swathes of beautiful countryside. What are your views on this situation?

This isn't really a forum for starting such conversations. It's a page telling you *how* to press the right links etc to start a conversation. The best place to have your conversation might be on one of the areas of the BBC about Cornwall, including the England sub-site:

or, within this h2g2 sub-site, on the <./>Askh2g2</.> or <./>MiscChat</.> forums.
