The symbol for candela, according to the Bureau International des Poids et Mésures, is cd, not can.

By the way, aren't units (both fundamental and derived) written without capital (meter, kilogram(m), second, newton, watt, ... instead of Meter, Kilogram(m), Second, Newton, Watt)

... for candela I may have an old book and will check this out ... for the other thing, well in german you write them with capital letters and I though this are names (like citys etc.) and therefore wrote them also with capital letters.

The website of the NIST says the same thing about cd

I can't say I'm surprised about the Germans writing the names of units with capitals. Germans tend to write the following with capitals:
* all nouns (substantiva)
* everything worth writing with capitals (according to Germans)
* anything else if they feel like it.
