A Conversation for Giving Up Smoking

I smoked for 30 years, and absolutely loved it! My friends say that of all people they knew they NEVER thought I could give it up, and yet I haven't smoked for a year now, and I rarely feel like one. The method was easy. Gradually make the time you have your first cigarette for the day a little bit later at various intervals. The theory is that the body and mind don't notice or mind little changes to one's lifestyle.
For me, I found that making my first cigarette for the day 30 minutes later every fortnight was the right formula. So for example, I used to have my first cigarette at 6:30 AM, so after a fortnight of this I then made 7 AM my starting time for smoking, then 2 weeks later 7:30 AM etc. It took me about a year and a half to quit.
I really think this technique should work for most people because if it feels too scary or stressful then simply choose more lenient rules for you, eg. add only 15 minutes every month.
Well done!

I gave up a year ago as well. I did it by taking up eating instead, so now I have a stone-and-a-half to shift. I hear nicotine is a good appetite suppressant...
