I'm ashamed to say that back in my extreme poverty days I have succombed to the irresistible lure of cigarette butt foraging. Whoah... it still gives me the shivers even now, and I can still taste the reconstituted roll-ups now. The biggest problem with this method of nicotine recycling is that every rebuilt butt tastes of ashtrays- really badly- you might as well just lick the ashtray clean, cause once you smoke one of these babies you've got that taste in your mouth all day (if not for life). Baaad stuff.

Still even worse than this are the really desperate people who scour bus station concourses for tasty looking butts. This is just about as low as humanity gets- I mean you really don't know where these butts have been- whose mouth(s) they might have been in and what might have happened to them in the days/months they have been lying on the ground- passing dog, pigeon or tramp anyone. Yuk.

Thankfully those days are behind me now (fingers crossed) but then again they way taxes on cigarettes keep going up in the UK all us sad addicts may end up there one day...

Stop, stop. I'll be having nightmares for weeks.

the only substance i would scour the world to smoke again, would be marijuana. tabacco is dirt cheap and only gives a buzz for a little while.

Why scrounge butts when you can bum your freinds cigarettes instead?

Sadly I remember when 24 hour opening was not a common thing in the UK, even for petrol stations. Many's the time at 3:00a.m. when my friends and I were to be found rummaging around the butts left over from the night's excesses when we were all out of smokes. And yes, there is nothing comparable to that taste of twice smoked tobacco ...but when it's all you've got...
