After all, my ancestors are German, too, But they had some incurable urge to move to Missouri and grow, well... dirt, from what I've seen of the place. And so I was born in the US of A, and born to English speaking parents, without so much as a 'by your leave' or asking what I felt about the whole arrangement! So don't go taking out your aggressions on me!
Sorry, I tend to get a bit silly at times. Anyway, welcome to the Guide. I am here to greet you officially as an Assistant Community Editor (that's ACE for short) and I'd be more than happy to answer any questions or concerns as you settle into your own home on the range (and a much nicer one than my ancestors chose, if you ask me ).
To help you get started finding your way around here, I've got a couple of links. The homepage of the ACES has an excellent array of links to get you started: http://www.h2g2.com/A214796
As does the Newcomer's Welcome page: http://www.h2g2.com/A5752
The community newsletter, the Post, comes out every week with a new article. You are even encouraged to submit articles to it: http://www.h2g2.com/u54963
That should do for a start. Enjoy your stay!

Hi GargleBlaster!
A nice long letter that you've written.
The reply is shorter (the language, you know...), but I hope you'll like it anyway.
Congratulations to your origin! (I'm sure the dirt in Missouri was better than the life in Germany.)
And don't take this all too serious--I really like my country.
So thanks for the info, the links and the answers to questions that will certainly follow!

Yes, I do tend to ramble on a bit. I'm overfond of the sound of my own... typing?
And actually, I know very little of the dirt farm in Missouri (pronounced "misery;" coincidence? ), since my parents settled in California while they were both still young. I'm rather proud of my California heritage, and my German heritage, and my Irish heritage, and my Canadian French heritage... okay, maybe not so proud of the French bit.

Hi GargleBlaster,
Sorry, my replies come a bit slow in the last time.
Yes, your letter is really loudly-typed (does THAT word exist?).
I saw that you can greet almost every new user here with his own nationality! I liked to be as multicultural as you (stop - the american part reached)
I hope I can add my first own Journal Entrie in the next days.

Multi-culturalism is what being an American is all about. And no, actually, I can't greet everyone as a relative, since most everyone here is English, and I haven't got a bit of that.
Good luck with that first article.
