Yep, I know.
The main lion goddess is Sekhmet, which translates as Powerful Lady (Got that right!)
The crocodile god was Sobek, though he wasn't a very popular one, not nearly as much as some of the others.
They had gods for almost every animal, from baboons, to beetles. I've done a lot of study on them, so give me a call if you want to talk about it.

Em hotep. *S*
Sorry, I'll be slower next time. *L*
The god you refer to is Thoth, also called Tehuthi. He was the god of wisdom, magick, and learning. As patron to the scribes, he also covered any sort of writing, learning and time, among other things. He's often refered to as the 'Great Uncle' of the gods, particulary the Heliopolitan Ennead, because he was created apart from them but still remained in very close contact.
On a more personal not, I love him, I think he's the greatest.
If you would like to discuss this further, I'm always free to do so. *S*

Well that was a rather easy one but you'd be amazed at the lack of enlightenment I have run across in my travels. Now I do not expect everyone to be an egyptologist, however I would expect certain individuals that declare their "devotion" to the ancient egyptian deities to be more well informed. I have made some extent of personal study on the Egyptian pantheon and the general history of the pharoahs. I am not a proffesional in the field by far, am learning a dialect of Heiroglyphs at the moment though, time permiting. As to which particular versoin of the Heiroglyps I don't recall, it is my understanding there are 6+. Anyways would love to discuss the ancient Egyptians on a regular basis.
Topics could be suggested by both of us for discorse. Perhaps the theories of the pyramids creation? Boy are there some wild ones out there.

I know what you mean, some people just don't have a clue.
I have been studying Egypt for most of my life (in particular the 18th dynasty and the myths/religion), though only 'formally' in the last year. For the past few years I've been trying to teach myself Hieroglyphs - not any particular dialect yet, I'm just trying to get familiar with the whole before specializing. There's not many resources for it where I live, so I've had to rely quite a bit on the Budge translations, which is a pity considering he's going a bit out of date these days. But I'm sure we can find a lot to talk about here. *S*
I would love to discuss Egypt with you on a regular basis. I have heard many of those wild theories, and they always make good conversation starters, even if they are laughable.
Would you happen to have Icq? That way, we could talk much easier. (I don't come in here that often)
Em hotep, Saau.
btw: Which is your favourite Egyptian god/dess? *S*

Uhmm don't kill me everybody. I have been kinda busy lately so haven't been monitoring my responses. I do not have ICQ unfortunately. I Do have AIM somewhere on this thing gathering dust though?? Hmm, well I just picked up a nice set of books printed in the 60's that have a lot of the superstitions and other neat brick a brak mixed with facts. Alot about various explorers and what their achievements and theories were. Quite fascinating too bad only obtained the four books of the series. They were printed for a group called the "Friends of History" hard covered blue with gold etched osiris on the covers? I can't say as to where they were printed off hand though. Anyways I am studying the primarily Heiroglyphs not heiratic or the later offshoots. I once had the net adress for an on-line tutor for Heiroglyphs let me see if I can find it uhmm well kinda can't figure how to attach the dang thing hmmmm.... well If you get a chance maybe I could e-mail it to you. just dump me your addy and I will send the addy, I think I can do that?? Well anyways I will get back to you a.s.a.p. with that it will help you at least with the basics.
