A Conversation for 26199's Reading

hello there,
I`ve been thinking about this re-reading thing for a while, because I used to read a lot when I was younger and time didn`t pass so quickly for me. Later in life I got more picky and now for quite a long time I depend on a friend of mine to supply me with new books. But: although she has almost the same taste in books as I, I find myself re-reading my old and valued books at a rate of 2 books from her to at least 1 book from my old stock. It simply feels like getting into my old and comfortably worn shoes, pleasant. Very seldom a new book is promoted into the "old-book-area" by not returning the book to my friend, who never reads a book twice, so this is ok for her. But most of the books I gladly return and as I recently moved from one place to another I can tell you: what relief not to be burdened by so many books which are awkward to carry!
So I conclude: no reason to apologize.
Nevertheless I agree that it is better to try something new from time to time, even if as the result one returns to the "old" stuff...
So keep on doing what feels right to you!
Reni

Yeah... it's something I used to do all the time, I'd very rarely - if ever - read a new book. When I did start reading some new ones, I was pleasantly surprised about all of them... hence the conclusion that going back and reading old books all the time lost me quite a lot of opportunities to read new ones.
Still, I read a fair number of my favourites... what I quite like doing, in fact, is reading one old favourite and one new book at the same time
Have you ever read 'Neuromancer'? One of my favourite books, I'd never have read it if I hadn't changed my reading policy...
