I guarantee it... anything good on the net which is free starts generating these damn things eventually... the first I saw was relating to ICQ, now I have seen them relating to hotmail, yahoo mail, yahoo messenger and even the whole Yahoo portal. When the H2G2 one turns up, it will look something like this:
"OMG!!! H2G2 is going to start charging everyone! They are going to charge 10p for every second you spend looking at their pages, and 20p to post to forums! But if we all send this email to everyone we know, then they won't be able to start charging and everything will be OK! So send it to everyone in the universe now! Or I won't be your friend anymore! Even though we've never met! And even though I send you a hundred bits of crap every day and you never reply to any of it! But I'm so dumb I fall for all this shit and don't even notice that you never email me at all! Now, send this to everyone! Everyone! Everyone! And keep H2G2 free!!! And save the whales!!! "
(descent into complete gibberish follows....)
OK... so maybe I got a little personal there, but trust me... this kind of thing will do the rounds soon.... I don't know where they start, but they always do....

I don't know the current conversion rates (yes...I'm American), but 20p to post sounds pretty expensive, especially if you post lots of little posts as opposed to a few long posts...

20p is 31 cents, according to www.moneyworld.co.uk - and it is quite a lot, yeah...
I too have seen these annoying messages doing the rounds on ICQ. The *most* annoying ones, though, are quite the reverse... mails claiming that Microsoft will *pay* anyone who forwards the mail to everyone thye know. Which is *insane*.
Most chain mails are.
*sigh*

I enjoy them from time to time. It's nice to read one and get that wonderfull feeling of being well on top of the intellect chain.
The best one I ever recieved was rumoured to be written by Dennis Leary. It has to be one of the most cynical pieces of On-line satyre I've ever seen.
It included paragraphs such as:
Somewhere in Nepal, there is a small Orphan boy named Gnuel who has no arms, no legs and no goats. Send this e-mail onto 10 people and him and his village will recieve the essential 5 pence a month that it will take to sustain their communal TV power supply. If you don't send this on, you and your entire family will be attacked by a rabid pack of hynas in your own homes.
At first, I didn't send this on, and my leg was broken by a falling poodle the next morning. I then sent it on, and immediatly recieved £10,000 from an unkown source the next day.
THIS DOES WORK! To prove my psychic skills, I would like to demonstrate a little trick.
Choose a number between 1 and 30.
Double it.
Divide it by 4.
Pick the corresponding letter in the alphabet.
Pick the name of the Girl/Boy you would most like to be with.
Now scroll down........
Are you thinking of a Mongolian Orange Elephant wearing a green Tux?
Amazing isn't it!
SEND THIS ON NOW!
(If anyone has the original, could you please send it on to [email protected] please?)
Key: Complain about this post
