I'm new(ish) too and don't usually have enough time for 'netting' around but my worktoy is broken, probably 'til next week sometime so I'm making the most of things. So much to see! So much to do! Also, so much cr*p mixed in!!

~bashful grin~ I'm almost ready to admit I'm enjoying myself here!

See ya 'round

Howdy Chunky Bear!

It remains to be seen how much time I end up spending here but who knows, I might enjoy it too.

Sydney, eh? I moved down from there five years ago after 18 years. I love it here, I was getting a bit Sydney'd out, but I still visit the family up there every now and then. I'll be up there this weekend for my birthday, in fact.

What's your worktoy? Any way you could arrange for it to stay broken? smiley - smiley

Cheers

Ozman

Hope you don't mind me crashing in here, but I just wanted to drop by and welcome you to H2G2. smiley - smiley I'm one of a gaggle of people called "ACEs", and our job is to make sure that the H2G2 "newbies" are getting along alright on this big, crazy site.

You've made the first big hurdle - getting registered and setting your user page up. smiley - smiley Congrats! Some places to visit and move on from here include: 1)The Newcomer's Welcome Page (found here: http://www.h2g2.com/a5752 ) where you can get a good general feel of the site, as well as meet other new H2G2 researchers, 2)The ACE's Homepage ( http://www.h2g2.com/A214796 ), where you'll find a LOT of helpful people lurking about, and 3)The "Don't Panic!" button (found at the top of any page), which will walk you through scary subjects such as "coding" and writing Guide entries.

And of course you can always ask us fellow researches for help. That's what we're here for. smiley - smiley

Best of luck!
Amanda ;P

Canberra!

I went to a conference there once and contrary to popular belief, Canberra DOES have a nightlife & I had a ball there! Admittedly I was with someone who knew Canberra and places to go after 10pm. I'm not a nightclubby person but was sufficiently charged to not care where we went. Um, this was quite a few years ago.

I'm abit Sydneyed-out too. Wouldn't mind moving out to ????? doing?????? work.

Sigh! smiley - sadface

I think my brain has been scrambled from working in a basement too long amongst excess emr and boredom and lack of mental challenges.

Speaking of brains, saw this 'interesting' cooking show on the teev a few weeks ago, all about offal !! trotters to ears, spleen, liver, kidneys, intestines, stomach (I think) & brains. I'm glad it wasn't smellavision as it was while I was eating my dinner!

By the way, happy birthday smiley - bigeyes
Hope you had a good time, lots of pressies!

Yep, Canberra's got a nightlife. You were lucky to have someone who knew the place, though. Everyone I've spoken to who came here alone for a course/meeting/whatever has been bored witless. Things are improving, though. We've now got a good number of cafes and restaurants in Civic and Manuka (among others). You still need to know where to go, though.

Any ideas on where you *might* move to? If I went anywhere else it'd probably be Melbourne. Everywhere else is too remote and/or too small.

Did you ever watch Roy Slaven and H.G. Nelson's TV show? I can't even remember what it was called. They used to give away an Offal Tray each week. It's amazing to think that people actually eat that stuff - apart from steak and kidney I wouldn't go near it. The stomach bit would probably have been tripe, that's the lining of the stomach of some beastie.

The birthday was pretty quite, actually, but I did score a bottle of Benedictine (mmm, alcohol) and the money to buy myself a racing suit for my rally driving (ask me about that at your peril - I can go on about it for hours smiley - smiley) Next year is the big three-oh (yep, old fart) so I might make something of it.
