Guests for lunch

After the row and the 4am bedtime, Moonlight stayed hidden until her first guest arrived for lunch. I'd been up all morning preparing vegetarian mushroom lasagne http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2009/jan/24/mushroom-lasagne-yotam-ottolenghi/print with the 3 kinds of mushrooms and 5 kinds of cheese.

I've never made this particular lasagne before, so it was an experiment. All was going well until the last bit where I was layering everything and managed to make quite deep cuts in 2 of my fingers opening the packet of mozzarella cheese with a sharp knife. Quite a middle class injury, as was pointed out to me later on. And so much blood!
I'd made mulled wine in my slow cooker, so the smell filled the house and people could have a glass as they arrived, then we sat down to the meal. The lasagne, served with a green salad and garlic bread, along with a glass of Griffith Park pink sparkling wine. Dessert was individual chocolate marquise, made a couple of days ago. Then coffee and handmade chocolate truffles, which I also prepared a couple of days ago. Just as well, as by this time my hand was wrapped in a tea towel but still bleeding.
Our lunch guests were 2 chainsmoking borderline alcoholics and an anorexic. Later we were joined by another guest who'd been to work in a shop first. The lasagne was a success, the marquise I've made many times before and was by popular request. Moonlight was in a good mood and one of her friends decided to stay over, so they sat on the sofa in pyjamas giggling about nonsense and leaving me to do all the tidying up. It was a good day in all.
Tomorrow might be a Bank Holiday but I have some work and a journey, which means an early morning start. Boo.

I couldn't put plasters on until I stopped the bleeding! Wrapping my hand in a was the only option. I was just at the layering stages of the lasagne so the guests had to do it. But it was a lovely meal, highly recommended if you are looking for something to give vegetarians.
And my hand still hurts!
