h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

You've been here all this time and nobody has come to visit you? There are researchers around here who are SUPPOSED to do that, and I can't think how you might have been overlooked.

Well, I'm not an ACE, but I explore around h2g2 a lot, and I've found you. You evidently haven't spent too much time here, and I don't know whether that might be lack of internet experience, lack of interest in the site, or citizenship of a country with a punitive telephone billing system.

I hang out a a few popular nodes on H2G2-By-the-Sea, most notably the Aroma Cafe, where you can always lleave a message for me. There are all kinds of discussion groups all over the site.

Hello- thanks for noticing, although I haven't felt particularly neglected. It's a big world and I'm not necessarily making a lot of noise. In answer to the question of my own level of interactivity, my access set-up at home is weak and slow. The ISP is a cheapie and the computer is a hand-me-down. So I don't surf that much, mostly from work, and the time here is obviously restricted to the occasional break. But I'm also not much of a joiner in general, I suppose. There's something about a significant percentage of "conversations" on the internet that rubs me the wrong way... Often it seems that the predisposition of people to wait to talk instead of listening to what the other person is saying is only more apparent on the net, where there's no need to even pretend to listen. Still, although I'm no newbie to this strange new world of watching our computers dial one another up on the telephone, I haven't explored the possibilities of interactivity enough to be making judgements. Frankly I'm a little bit afraid of what might happen when I get a real computer and high-speed access, or for that matter, when -God forbid- it gets connected to my television set. I can see all my time funneling into oblivion. Perhaps I'll see you around, so to speak.
