h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Well, second evening on h2g2 very interesting... about to logoff

Even managed a couple of posts though I posted to a couple of conversations some weeks after the last posting so will be interesting to see if actually get any replies...

Navigating around seems OK though it seems quite a slow site...

Wonder how many Gigs it is all in???

Seem to be a bunch of nice people around though many seem to be students... (those few home pages I have visited anyway)... maybe that is partly because students have more time to become part of a community like this...

Remembering back to when I was a student... the web was crap but I still managed lord alone knows how many hours becoming a member of various virtual communities via the newsgroups and irc...

this is soooo much better...

Wasnt supposed to be condescending, more my personal takle on the site, how it strikes me... obviously there are thousands who dont share my thoughts as (a) they wouldnt spend so much time here if they did and (b) it would be boring if we all thought alike.

My main thought is really that this isnt so much a guide to anything as a fun social club. It works more (only in my opinion) as a social club than as a great resource of information.

That isnt a bad thing at all, infact it is a great example of a site with really loyal users, but it just wasnt quite what I expected. I had hoped for a humourous but useful infomation resourse...

Certainly wasnt being condescending, was just trying to express my own opinions...

And there were a few posters who were just taking it all so seriously that it was a little amusing... I had to do respond with a little baiting!!

No offense was taken, or intended.
There is suprisingly a lot of info here, the problem is finding it.
As for it being a social club, that's how a lot of us use it.
This is where I first became interested in using html.

Some people here take things much too seriously, in my humble opinion.
There are currently a couple of 'flame wars' going on over some people's sense of humor, or lack of it.

You want info? There is a gentleman here who calls himself ffmike. He hosts a sight at
http://www.larkfarm.com It's not an info sight in its self, but if you can't find something on the web,
he's the man to notify. It's sort of a challenge for him, and his cronies.

Good, glad I didnt inadvertently offend!

Sorry to be silent for so long, been abroad for work and then ill and then on holiday and then just plain busy and then just too idle to log on and then couldnt log on as ADSL was being fitted for trial and other half had to reconfigure stuff...

Back now though
