Other things to do in Breda

Many years ago, when I worked just accross the Belgian border from Breda, I was facinated by adverts in the "Het Laatste Nieuws" (with a name like that this Antwerp newspaper deserves an article in it's own right)for the BBBC.
The logo was familiar to all world service listners, but I never did discover whether the BBBC or Breda Bare Bums Club was really as exiting as it's alliterative name.

Nice name, yes - I haven't seen this club, maybe it is already closed.
This article was rewritten by the editor, originally I wrote much more about Breda. As I am longer here, I discovered more interesting places, which could have been included in the article. Next time.

Breda apparently has the highest rate of car thefts in northern europe. Although I heard that a good eight years ago and am not sure if it has changed.
I can't remember anything about this place, despite numerous visits, except for the rather beautiful church in the central square. There is nothing about Breda that would recommend it as a holiday destination. The Euroliner makes a stop there, it's boring, and packed full of bored teenagers one step away from the bog clad ruts of a life farming. Avoid. Next door is a little village called Chaam, which my father had the misfortune to make his home ten years ago. Every year they have a cycling competition called "de acht van Chaam." Bikes pass at speed for an afternoon.
Avoid, also.
