I'm sorry, for something that I didn't do. Lynched somebody, but I don't know who. You blame me for slavery, a hundred years before I was born. Guilty of being white.

I couldn't remember the lyrics for 'filler' so I had to substitute the lyrics from a song I could remember. But this is really filler, as I don't want to have to look at my stupid journal entries everytime I'm on my page.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The sky is blue, and all the leaves are green. The suns as warm as a baked potato. I think I know precisely what I mean, when I say it's a shpadoinkle day.

And as I ride with my girl, she's my best friend in the whole world. We move along, set our goals high, with eyes full of hope as we aim for the . . .

Sky is blue and all the leaves are green. My hearts as full as a baked potato. I think I know precisely what I mean when I say it's a shpadoinkle day!

Who knows what that's from? Who's reading this anyway?

something's causing this mike, let's see i'm here, you're here, gypsy's here. ok tom, where's crow? where's crow? let's see i'm not supposed to say anything but i did see that little (I FORGOT WHAT HE CALLS HIM) headed for the basement with a pickaxe in his hand. gypsy, go to condition yellow, we've gotta stop him! roger!

I'm bored now, so I'm gonna have to fill the rest up later.

First poem/lyric/whatever is reminiscent of a tune by punk band NOFX, called "Don't Call Me White." Let me see how much I can recall off the top of my head:

The connotation's wearing my blood thin
Could it be semantics generating the mess we're in?
I often hear that language breeds stereotype
But what's the explanation for
the malice, for the spite?

Don't call me white
Don't call me white

I wasn't brought here I was born
Circumcised, categorised, allegiance sworn
Does this mean I have to take such shit
for being fair skinned? No!
I ain't part of no conspiracy
I'm just your average Joe

Don't call me white
Don't call me white

Can't remember much beyond that, except for the final line:

I can accept responsibility
for what I've done, but not for who I am

See...and some people think punk is dumb. How many country musicians can use the term 'semantics' properly? smiley - winkeye They even used a couple of words in 'Stuck in the K-Hole' that I had to look up. Do you know the definition of 'sybaritic'? smiley - winkeye

Dude! You rule!

I used to love NOFX. I saw them play a couple of years ago. Too bad I didn't still LOVE them then. My ex boyfriend used to play Liza and Louise and sing the 'would you take your clothes off please' part to me.

That song is 'Guilty of being white' by Minor Threat. I was straight edge until I was 15.

I would have some happy smilies on this, but I am very sad, so here's a sad one, smiley - sadface , you have to pretend it's happy.

So what made you stop loving NOFX?

I don't know. It's probably a combination of them getting more popular and just how when you listen to something so much you get burnt out on it. They still have a place in my heart, though. I need to get myself another copy of White Trash, Two Heebs, and a Bean.
Punk in Drublic too. But their later stuff was pretty tired.

I just remembered some of the lyrics to filler and you might like them. I can only remember parts so bear with me (GRRRRRR!! {get it? bear? ha, ha, ha!})

(something, something, something). . . you picked up a bible, and now you're gone.

It's in your head! It's in your head! You call it religion you're full of s***! Filler!

It's about thinking you have 'meaning' in your life through something or another, when it's really just taking up space in your head.

They're a band you have to take one cd at a time. I love their older stuff like Two Heebs, S&M Airlines, and my favorite is Punk in Drublic. But one of their older ones is the one with the condom wrapper on the cd cover...hated it. But I really like their newest one, too. I need a new copy of the one before it, the one with the guy feeling up the sheep on the cover. Someone stole my old one...bastards. Still, I can see what you mean about it getting tired. But I think their newest one is a recovery for them. As for them being to popular, that can't be helped, but at least they're opposing it wherever they can. They're getting radio play completely against their will.

That Filler tune sounds pretty cool...who is it by?

Minor Threat. If you haven't heard them you should. They can be kind of preachy on account of being straight edge and all, but they were really good. Have you heard Fugazi? That's Ian Mckaye from Minor Threat's band now. They are awsome. Fugazi was the first punk show I ever saw.

List me some more punk bands you like. Please?

Oh yeah, you're talking about 'Petting Zoo' or 'Eating Lamb'. The same album but with different covers. Which is NOFX's newest? Is it the one with a cover that looks like neopolitan ice cream?

filler

Post 8

Blatherskite the Mugwump - Bandwidth Bandit

Yeah, Heavy Petting Zoo was the name of it...but there was a picture of the dude eating the lamb he was petting on the reverse side of the sleeve. The new one is the one with the neapolitan ice cream cover. Can you tell I'm horrible at remembering names? Ah well, that's what happens when you're at work at 5:30 am and functioning on 5 hours' sleep. smiley - winkeye

First punk show I ever saw was Green Day, which just goes to show what a horribly underprivileged youth I had. But I made up for it over the next couple of years. I also like Pennywise, Bad Religion, MxPx, Dead Milkmen (horrible sound, but funny as all hell), Offspring (but I am soooo sick of hearing their new stuff on the radio!), Social D (and Mike Ness now that he's solo), Descendants,...I'm sure there's more, but that's all you're going to get out of me for now.

I must admit that punk takes a bit of a back seat for me, which is why I don't know too many non-mainstream punk bands. I'm a ska fan first and foremost. Reel Big Fish, Save Ferris, Dance Hall Crashers, Goldfinger, Less Than Jake, Suicide Machines....that's my kind of stuff. A lot of it is quite punky, too...especially Suicide Machines.

Ok, I've seen Pennywise (in fact I just told jb a story about that show), could've seen Bad Religion at Warped tour but had to leave early(my fave albums are Generator and Suffer), I saw the Dead Milkmen and am very happy about that, since not many people I know have got to see them (Big Lizard in my Backyard, Bealzububba), I'm pretty sure I've seen Less Than Jake. I know they've played here, and I might have gone but those days are kind of hazy. (I don't like their original stuff, but their covers rock!)

I used to like new ska more than I do now. I loved the Suicide Machines when they first came out (when they were small enough they could still call themselves Jack Kevorkian and the Suicide Machines), but I didn't like them after too long.

Oh yeah, I saw Reel Big Fish too. They opened for Blondie. They're all right, but the RBF fans were talking smack on Blondie and since that's my favorite band, I wasn't too pleased. The only thing I could really think when they (RBF) played was that they had most likely met Trey Parker, whom I have an enormous crush on.

I prefer old ska like the Specials (saw them twice), the English Beat, Madness, and the Selecter.

Sorry about taking so long getting back to you. My mother wanted to use the computer and was flipping out on me. And me in my delicate emotional condition. smiley - sadface (pretend it's winking)

Yeah, Suicide Machines have definitely known better days. Their best cd is the one with Hey Ska, the Vans song, Islands in the Sky, New Girl, etc. It was when they were on tour for that cd that I saw them, opening up for Guttermouth. It's one of my favorites. Then I bought their next one. Hated it. And now, the morning after I posted this saying how cool they are, I'm driving home from work, and I hear a punk tune that, while a bit too clean, still sounded okay. Then the announcer says that it's Suicide Machines, and they're playing a block, and follow it up with a tune that I know, I felt betrayed.

Less Than Jake is another one of those bands you have to take one cd at a time. When they rock, they kick ass, when they don't it shows. When I saw them last year, though, they pretty much stuck to the two cd's they did well. I'll post the titles when I get home.

RBF has more than probably met Trey Parker, since they did a lot of work on the soundtrack for his movie 'Baseketball,' including appearing in the flick. They played in the stands during the big championship game.

I'm not much of an old ska fan, since the bands you mentioned have that nasal-whiney quality to their vocals that I despised throughout the 80's. I'm just glad they're over. smiley - winkeye

BTW...also sorry I took so long to reply. By the time I logged on again, this forum had been pushed off my page, so I had no idea you'd replied. It was only when I went looking up old theads did I finally notice.

I know about RBF and Trey. The only reason I know any of the words to any of their songs was because of Baseketball. I was kind of wanting to stay after the show (to meet Blondie) and shake one of their hands, just because I would be shaking hands with someone who unboubtedly shook Trey Parker's hand. (I'm just a little obsessed smiley - winkeye )

I thought of a band you would probably like if you haven't already heard them. They're probably one of my favorite new school ska bands. They're called Skankin' Pickle. I have only one of their albums, The Green Album. It's mostly covers of a wide range of songs, with about four originals. It's really good. You should chect it out.

Since you're such a ska fan, you probably won't like Minor threat. Do you like Operation Ivy? They were ska influenced punk.

Hey, man, the old stuff rocks! And, some of them are still around. I saw the Specials twice in the summer of 97, and they were awsome. The first time I saw them was a lot better than the second, because the second time was at Warped tour and they only had so much time, so they only played two old songs and the rest was off their new album.

I was wondering where you were. I thought maybe since I didn't like new ska I wasn't cool enough to talk to. smiley - winkeye

I just now remembered another ska band. They're called the Rudiments. They may not be ska anymore, they either were ska and turned into a hardcore band, or it was the other way around. They had a split with the Suicide Machines. I don't remember much about them except that when they played here, everyone seemed to like them a lot. And that they had stickers with 'R' on them which said 'not Rancid' underneath it. smiley - smiley

I'm aware of Skankin Pickle, and I used to have the Green album, until it went the way of most of my cd's which means it was stolen.

I know of Operation Ivy, too. Sound is a little bit raw for me, but their songs are good. Buck o' Nine has done a couple of excellent covers of their stuff.

I've heard the name 'Rudiments' floating around for a while now, but haven't sampled any of their stuff. I'll be looking for it, though, especially if they're the good remnants of the Suicide Machines.

I don't know if anyone from the Rudiments was in Suicide Machines, they just put out a cd together.

Don't worry about it, GB. I'm pretty much ok, and I have thought about what it would've been like if we did go out anyway. What's taken a lot out of me is being really pissed off. Because I am super mad at him. I really don't mind that he doesn't like me, it takes a lot of stress off me. What makes me mad is that he made me look stupid in the eyes of everyone in that crowd. Grrrrrr!

Hi again. I was just checkin up on ya... hope you don't mind. smiley - winkeye

Sorry, but I'm not much of a guestbook signing kind of guy. I've read too many articles on privacy on the internet, so I do what I can to minimize my vapor trail. It's my own weird sort of "black helicopters" phobia. smiley - winkeye

I read through this forum again, and I remembered that Rudiments/Suicide Machines cd. In fact, that was where I first encountered Suicide Machines. A friend of mine had it, and figured it would be something I could get into, so he loaned it to me for a few days. Both bands sounded kinda raw, but SM really stood out to me, and when their stuff started playing on Radio Free Hawaii (a totally cool radio station that would basically play anything you wanted, so of course it went out of business smiley - sadface), I was more interested. Bought the cd, and had a few weeks to learn the songs before they showed up playing with Guttermouth. They sounded like shit, but that was the sound dude's fault... everything was too loud for the little warehouse they were playing. Still, it was a pretty cool experience.
