Hey Twophlag,

I just got your entry on Belief to edit, and seeing as we're both members of the same organization, I thought it would be ok to talk with you about it. I haven't made a determination yet, but I'd like your input. Six weeks to work...

Hope to hear from you soon.

hi there! sorry I have taken so long getting back to you on this one; er, first off feel free to do whatever you feel you need to the article, that's what it's there for. I'm free to offer input on whatever part of the process you might feel you need it on, but otherwise I'm quite willing to trust your judgment. I'm grateful that you took the time to drop me a line and let me know you were working on it. Thanks.

Let me know what you need.

Let's see, last paragraph:

'One thing humans are very bad at doing is admitting that they don't know much.'

I think this needs some clarification, perhaps some examples, and definitly how this statement relates to belief and the human act of believing. I could probably write it, but keeping your tone might be difficult. Could you post the re-write here?

Thanks smiley - smiley

Well shit you have probably noticed that it has taken me a while to get back to you. Real life and all that.

I'm not sure if I can honour your request in this instance I'm sorry tto say. It's not so much a matter of me wanting to be stubborn about it but just that I'm not too sure I CAN add anything. I wrote this piece (and others like it) in a sort of jovial, mildly condesecending and yet obliquely wise style that I think reflects the 'voice' Adams first gave the 'Guide' originally. As such, it delivers its message with a rather stunningly brief little punch line that the reader will either 'get' or 'not get'. The idea here is that belief implies an assumption that one knows something about something with certainty and clarity, an appallingly stupid assumption given how very little it is that anyone actually knows about anything. In point of fact, one might argue that in an infinite universe, realizing that the finite knowledge of any one person, when compared to the infinite amount of things there are to know, is mathematically an infinitely small integer only comprehensible as 'zero', I think my case is closed. I just thought it was easier and snappier to say 'one thing people are bad at is admitting they don't know much' and leaving it to the reader's wisdom to apply that to him or herself. It is a plea for open-mindedness. I think it might lose some of its effectiveness (and humour) to over-elaborate.

Hope I'm not too late getting back to you.

Let me know
