It's a little less 'insulting' in the past tense though, Skankyrich;(there; I've got it right this time!). It means you're still rich, but less pungent than heretofore! Possibly even fragrant!

Yes, it's that awful stuff my Nan got me for Christmas - I didn't think it would reach all the way up there from Devon though

Ah! The West Country; heavenly place! My wife and I take a holiday there almost every year, be it Dorset, Somerset, Cornwall or Devon. We went to Lyme Regis last summer, Beer the year before, and Looe about 4 years ago.
Our youngest son used to teach in Dorchester where he had a flat, and then lived in Martock after marrying.

So we have spent a lot of time down in that general S.W. area.

So you should; it's hardly the cultural centre of the UK, but when it comes to scenery, friendliness and a generally relaxed air it's damn hard to beat. I keep trying to leave, but have pretty much given up. The Devon entry we're working on puts it rather well, 'this is a place where strangers tell you they feel at home'.

Have added you to my 'Friends' list, as you sound almost wistful about my neck of the woods

All along that south coast from west to as far east as Wiltshire, which is of course a little more inland with all those lush green rolling plains running towards Salisbury.
I think we have visited almost all the more magnificent places including Exeter and its Cathedral, when our son lived in Taunton for a short time (and drove daily to his Dorchester school; believe it or not!).
Until comparatively recent visits we used to do the coastal walks, looking for fossils and anything else interesting. We watched the Royal Navy on gunnery practice from our vantage point on the higher parts of the Durdle Door landscape, with their safety launches patrolling the area and fast, modern FPBs taking on the role of the 'enemy'.

But it is the landscape and the wine-like climate that clinches it for us!
