Without wishing to depress you, I can tell you that Artstraws are alive and well in the UK, and still being used in primary schools - you can even choose between standard (4mm) and jumbo (6mm). The catalogue suggests that you join them with pipe cleaners. There is also a useful book of ideas for using them, but it doesn't say here what for. Would you like some?
