THE FINEST GOAL EVER SCORED

Well, the award would have gone to Chris Waddle, whilst playing for Marseille, but after picking the ball up in his own area, going the length of the pitch, and taking it round the goalkeeper... he fell over and shot into the side netting.
Or else it would have gone to an unknown Sporting Lisbon player, for a goal I saw on Eurosport but have never seen again since, but for me that goal was teamwork personified.
It would be easy to say David Beckham against Wimbledon, but that would be too easy. Instead I'm going to go for a goal Trevor Sinclair scored whilst still at QPR, against Barnsley in the fourth round of the FA Cup in 1997. Volleyed backwards overhead-style whilst eight feet off the ground and about twenty yards out, into the top corner. It was goal of the season, and with just cause.

I remember the brilliant Frank Worthington scoring a goal of pure cavalier nonchalence many years ago. I think he was playing for Birmingham City at the time and he had his back to goal when he took possession of the ball flicking it high over his head and the defenders behind him, swivelling round to meet the ball on it's descent, striking it home goal-ward, achieving a sort of immortality in the process.
Genius. He's a great fan of Elvis too.

Gazzas similar goal against the Scots was another class example. Whilst he has much that he shouldn't be proud of, that goal is what can never be taken away from him...pure class.
