The main update to the text that I was planning to make was to include the fact mentioned by Stuart that the original ram-air canopies used by parascenders and later by sports parachutists and paragliders was designed by NASA (although I couldn't find confirmation of this for myself).
I was also considering adding the following links for anyone who wanted to read up further on the history of free flying:-

Sorry for being a bit slow in replying, I have been in transit down to Africa and so have been 'out of the loop' for a little while.
Anyway, I've had a look at the article and think that possibly the best place to include Stuart's is to drop a footnote from the third paragraph after "using a modified parachute" to say something like:
"The original canopies were based on a ram-air canopy that was designed by NASA"
