I live with two of the most wonderful guys. I wouldn't change them for any reason in the world. However, their take on how the apartment should be decorated is wholly another matter.

They decided one night to buy paint for the living room and the kitchen. I caught them as I was coming home from work-I would not have even been aware that paint was being purchased if I had not been an hour early that day. "We'll be back in half an hour" they say, and off they go.

So, they come home. Wanna guess what color they chose. What color it took them two hours to decide on. The color they chose "'cause we didn't really like anything, but really wanted to buy paint"...LOCKER ROOM GREY! Bleepin' Locker Room Grey. It looks more like Solitary Confinement Grey from Ralph Lauren's Maximum Security Collection. This is not going to be pretty. I asked that one of them paint a swatch on the wall so that we could see what it looks like dry before we commit to it. I came down the next morning; thought I was going to cry. It is so well placed, that it is right smack in the line of sight of anyone sitting anywhere in the living room.

It is Locker Room Grey. I have to live it. I am not happy. smiley - sadface

Oh, Becky Becky Becky. I suggest you start investing in Zen-wall sized decorations. Perhaps a 5x5 foot sign that says merely "Black Ice", if you're in the revenge department smiley - winkeye

Hope it works out!!!

Ohmigod! There are 3 guys a dog living in my house (Inc. me) (no I'm not the dog smiley - winkeye) but I wouldn't dream of having public bits of my house locker-room grey! You have my deepest sympathys *hug*. The most neutral colour is magnolia. It's cheap and covers everything & I recommend getting a bucket of it!

I must admit two of the bed-rooms are battleship grey with black ceilings and black wood-work. That you don't want to see, trust me! but I can't stop what people do with their own rooms smiley - sadface

I hope you get it sorted!

The Black Ice thing is definately a good idea. The painting has begun. They don't think that the grey was their best idea (due to the nasty swatch painted on the wall)-but the Kitchen is complete. They went with Bozo-Wig Red (even though our apartment has pale pink cabinets-not our fault, they came with the place, and we deal) and it's okay. It's interesting anyway, and if it makes them happy, and I sign off on it, well I just get to pull more weight on the living room.
...to be continued

Dear Zed,

Thank you for your concern and gratitude *hugs* right back at'cha.
I'm holding out hope that they will see the light. It looks as if they have realized and accepted that they were very bad (we're going paint shopping this weekend).

So wish us luck (and I am in total agreement with you that a person's room is their Castle and may be be experimented with or decorated to the heart's desire of the occupant-for the record, one of my roommates has Camoflage Green, due to the fact that he used three cans of paint, bought at different times, and they didn't exactly match, and the other used electric blue boat paint-he liked that it was shiny. Boat Paint Boy almost died however, due to the fact that he accidently painted the windows closed and breathing became a problem) smiley - smiley

Why would you be the Dog?

You know, I vaguely recall a Twilight Zone (?) episode where a guy drove a woman insane (on purpose) by painting her room this special shade of blue...

Hee hee. More paint horror stories. smiley - winkeye

You know, I might be strange (scratch that, I know I'm strange, but I didn't think this bit about me was so strange), but I don't move into apartments that I rent and repaint them. They get painted before I move in, they are what color they are, I'm going to be moving sometime relatively soon (I mean, it's always relatively soon if I'm renting an apartment) and just don't see the point of expending the energy or having to worry about changing the color *back* when I leave.

Is that so odd? It's starting to seem like it is.

You are right on the money. I completely agree, which is why my room remains cream. Why put all that money in, only to pay out to have it repainted. I don't think it makes a lot of sense. I think the money could be better spent on well-almost anything else. But they do not see it that way.
