A Conversation for How do I...?

1942 RETURNING

Sorry about the use of caps, but that's how it appears in the grafitti, usually in red letters. I think I'd better explain.

All over North London the phrase "1942 returning" is appearing on walls, in spray paint. The lettering is not the usual wrist and elbow cursive tagging typical of the New York underground but the sort of lettering that of someone unfamiliar with a spray can.

I've got two (ish) questions for you all.

Have you seen it? If so, where?
What does it all mean?

OK so now I'm replying to myself. How sad is that.

I realise that this topic is in completely the wrong so could I add the question: "How could I have posted it somewhere more appropriate?"

Hmm, just putting forward a theory but not claiming that it's anywhere near the right answer. About 6-8 (??) years ago when Tom Watkins was launching East-17 he thought up a 'mystery product' advertising campaign. (The rights and wrongs...well,actaully the wrongs, mainly, of launching East-17 is another matter. smiley - smiley ) ANYWAY, for about three months before their first single came out, their logo was spraypainted on walls all over London, starting with the door of Smash Hits offices and targeting any other likely/appropriate buildings and companies etc... So by the time it was released thier name was already planted in peoples' minds. Which was quite cunning, I'm sure you'll agree.

Not saying that's what it is, but it could be an exercise in raising the awareness of the people of North London for some reason.

Then again it could be someone with a lot of time and red paint on their hands and a personal aversion to the 40's. smiley - winkeye
