How do I button my shirt?

Sounds like a stupid question, but I need advice. My shirt has two button bands, one in front of the other, and two collars.
If I do up the inner one and then the outer one, the inner one is completely hidden, so what's the point? Should I just do up the inner one, and leave the outer one undone, so that it looks casual?

You do up both sets of buttons for a 'layered look', and only the first set of buttons for a 'less structured look'.

Mine isn't quite like that. The two button bands are in the same place on the shirt. One is directly on top of the other.

Never heard of anything like that before. I presume you do both up but I doubt it would really matter
