Takes the mickey really.
While it adds a nice personal touch, I've seen that other people are capable of getting rid of their margins. Why can't I?

I suppose I could ask them myself, but methinks that posting here will let other people have easy access to the info. Hurrah!

With another page I found that if the margin got too long then it would just vanish. So, do I just need to add more people with long names to the list?

If you don't want the links to appear in the margin why not use <A HREF instead on the <LINK tag?

Yep it sure will - currently you can mix HTML tags into a GuideML page with no problems.
