A Conversation for Lego
The origins of the Lego name

Just a little fact:
The name Lego is actually short for the two danish words: Leg godt!
Translated directly it means Play well.
Translated a little better it means something like: Have fun playing.
Just thought it might be an interesting fact to put in the entry.

By complete coincidence, the word lego also means something in Latin, the ancient language of Southern Europe: it means "I bring together, gather or collect". Ole didn't know this when he chose the name. (Nor did he care, probably!)

"Lego" can actually mean around three different things in Latin (I'm one of those strange people who still actually studies Latin in school) - "I read" is one, "I build" another and I forget the third, but as you say, it is probably something like "I gather" - I'll check this out.
Thanks,
